    Happy Birthday CPL!

We all love the CPL and what they have done for the progress of Counter-Strike as a sport. The last few years have shown the most progress as the prize money for their tournaments is huge now and CPL tournaments are now being broadcast on national TV! So today on their website they announced it is their 9th birthday today.
The Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) announced that the organization turned nine years old today. The CPL is the world's first videogame sports league.

The concept of the CPL, commenced with the creation of the term "cyberathlete" in early June 1997. On June 25, 1997, CPL's parent company registered the domain cyberathlete.com.
CS-Nation salutes the CPL and all their efforts for us as a community and offers big congratulations to them for turning 9! Read the full press release here.

I miss the always evolving style from cpl. They had so many nice tournaments to watch on TSN last year, but now they only announced one or two events for 2006 so far

So what were your favorite CPL matches?

Memorable ones include rival vs sk tripple overtime or whatever from CPL summer 2004, 3D vs 4K bullseye deagle overtime ownage at CPL 2k3, and who could forget NiP vs X3 :)

There were other great matches/plays too but I'm too lazy to think of them at the moment.

3D vs SK when on nuke when they won winter cpl in 2002

          3D vs 4K on mill

          zEx vs eol

The rival vs SK match was frustrating to watch because rival looked like they should have won so many times. There were some good ones from this last Winter CPL too(like 3D vs SK, JMC vs NiP, and SK vs begrip).

This week (ESWC) and next week (CPL) is going to be crazy. project.kr is going to CPL but wnv.gm and lunatic hai are both going to eswc along with col, 3D, NiP, fnatic, attax, and that new really good mibr team (who will not do well!). Despite no Catch Gamer and project.kr at ESWC and no wnv.gm and lunatic hai at CPL both events are going to be really good. I'm hoping wnv.gm doesn't get top 3 or something because if they do it will kind of take some of the thunder away from next week's CPL with people going, "oh but wnv.gm isn't there". I want 3D to win ESWC and catch to win CPL despite how unlikely that would be. Lunatic Hai won't do well, but project.kr will. wnv.gm and nip will get top 3 at ESWC.

There you have it, you now are know what will happen in the next two weeks and won't need to watch.

              If only they'd hold a CS:S tourny.

They actually tried to hold one again, but there weren't enough teams signed up and it was degraded to a BYOC tournament, which had less sign-ups, and it got removed.
