    New Source Technologies

As previously mentioned, there will be a new update for Day of Defeat: Source coming on the 28th. Valve has already unveiled a number of the updates to be expected in this release. Included in this update are a number of new graphical updates to the Source engine as well as gameplay enhancements to the game itself.
      Technology Updates

    • Color Correction

    • Film grain

      New Shaders

    • Image-based texture blending

    • Light warping

    • Phong Shading/Rim Lighting on player models

    • Improved Animations

    • Support for Bloom on DX8 level GPUs

    • Prop Vertex Lighting Engine Optimizations

      Gameplay Enhancements

    • Spawn Clip adjustments

    • Improved Hit location detection

    • Weapon balancing

    • Detonation Gameplay Introduced

    • Player Statistics
All this and more, including two new maps to look forward to. If only I knew what light warping was when it comes to the Source engine implementation.

Smash (from HL2.net and the Steam forums) found out from Cliffe that the light warping is a "way to make materials look colored and shadow in different colors than black." IE: The blue look on the dod_kalt cobblestones.

Why isn't Cliffe working on CS?

So far as I know, Cliffe is a mapper now. So he does mapping work for DoD: Source, HL2: DM, and CS: Source. He did mention a map he was working on for CS: Source some time back (no recent mention of it though).

Really great news. We haven't had any new content for a while now, and the new maps do look good. Colmar in particular.

Still, I really would like to see some new stuff on CS. Some proper new maps, not remakes or HDR re-dos, some proper altogether new maps. The only CS:Source originals are port and compound, surely we can do better than that.

Everyone loves Valve for the free content they spurn out every so often, but does the use of the word "free" in the press release look ominous? As in, future map packs may not be? And driving down the Battlefield route of $10 for 3 maps? or Oblivion's $2 for absolutely nothing?

Does this mean that you'll actually be able to hit the things you aim at with the Thompson now?!

parts of the DoD stuff (e.g. light bending, hit detection) either are in CS:S (hit detection (better in cs atm compaired to dod)) or will come soon, it depends how the community likes it, (e.g. DoD had HDR first)

While they're not exactly new, I'd like to see a cs_siege port to the source engine. An official one, not the custom ones done..And backalley. Fun times..

As for a new CS Source map, what about a beach setting, or a forest setting...Like militia's forest, minus the house..Or a war-torn dilapidated town...

i do like your idea seal. siege is a AWESOME map back in the early cs years. but no one even play siege in cs anymore. so whats makes you think people will play it in source? also almost 90% of all css servers are dust/dust2 24/7 >=|

a new completely map would be nice collection. i would like a night/semi dark map. =) have some use with the nvision heh.

but man i really do miss them days. it was just fun.

They really need to change all the weapon accuracies back to the way they were in DoD 1.3, IMO they suck now.
