Details on Upcoming DoD: Source Update

Recently, two members of the Day of Defeat Forums had a chance to visit Valve and get down and dirty with the patch set to be released on the 28th. Their impressions offer a lot of insight into what DoD fans should expect next week.
I know I'm not the only one who's tired to death of CTF maps. Well thank the lord and pass the ammunition, we have objective maps. Based loosely on the maps of Saints and of Jagd (pronounced Yagd, by the way) the maps answer many of my desires in terms of gameplay. Open enough as to not allow one sniper or MG to lock down an entire access route, it also has enough enclosed houses and back routes as to make it hard for one person to defend alone.
There's plenty more from forum members Gosho and bazooka throughout that entire thread including information on film grain use, new model lighting (utilizing the same Phong shading that was added in Episode 1), weapon tweaks, and bug fixes.

The phong shading technique is really a nice, subtle effect. Some people have already tested its use on CS: Source models as seen here. Those models cannot be used online, however. So you'll just have to wait for Valve to add the effect in an official release (which I think they'll end up doing for all models in the long run).
