    The Ship Sets Sail

Always up on the latest press releases, Shacknews has received word that the Source powered game entitled The Ship is making its Steam debut next month.
The Ship, a massively mysterious thriller (MMT) from Outerlight Ltd, is scheduled to arrive in July via Steam, Valve's electronic distribution platform.

Outerlight is a UK-based studio that began as a Half-Life MOD team. Momentum from their MOD work spurred the evolution of a fully funded professional studio.

The Ship, Outerlight's first commercial product, was created with Source, the same game engine technology Valve developed for Half-Life 2.

Set onboard a 1920's luxury liner, Mr X, the Ship's owner has "invited" you to a mysterious game of hunt and hunted, as players must secretly track and extinguish specified passengers while avoiding similar fate.

"With the inclusion of a player needs system, plus elements of exploration and stealth gameplay, The Ship is very different than other first person titles," said Chris Peck, Outerlight's Managing Director. "We're delighted to debut via Steam, and have plans for expanding upon The Ship's unique multiplayer gaming with updates and new content after launch."
You can find more information and media at The Ship's website.

I scoped out the E3 trailer a while back and this game is looking like a lot of fun. Those who have talked that are in the beta tests have also said that the game is quite a bit of fun.

It did start out as a HL1 mod that came out a few years back.

Thank god. I thought I was losing my mind, since I was sure I had played something just like this for HL1 back in the day.

i think thanks to steam, ALOT of future mod endeavers are all going to cost minimum $10 as opposed to HL where every single mod was free I like seeing mod developers make money but I don't know how I feel about this.

              yeah i'm also mixed

but at the same time if mod dev's make a little money then that'll mean more updates, less bugs, and more dedication unlike mod X where ppl will bitch, etc. and team members drop out and stuff

plus they might get noticed by a big developer or something

they should do a trail, 1 week free and if you like it you pay the $10. I for one wont be buying this mod. Even though i would like to try it, i dont think playing with 2 or 3 people is going to make it fun.

This isn't a mod developer. Mods are made by amateurs in their spare time. It's not going to be the mod for hl1 on the source engine. It's a game they have been developing full time. They deserved to be paid for all the hard work.

The mod team, even when the first beta came out for HL1, have always stated they were making a commercial game out of the idea. And this is it.

Despite a number of issues I thought the original was, highly.... original. Good fun and intriguing.
