    Newell Interviewed

Gabe Newell, one of the founding fathers of Valve Software, sat down with EuroGamer and granted them an interview. With a few of the other Valve staff at his side, Newell answers questions that deal with the creation of Episode 1, to the next Half-Life 2 episodes, and all the way to the Half-Life movie.
Eurogamer: Can you reveal the names of the places you visit in Episode 2?

    Gabe Newell:
Not yet! You'll see a teaser at the end that gives you a sense of what the environments will be like. Later this summer we'll give more details about Episode 2 - it's out by the end of this year, and three is by next year. Episode Two actually started simultaneously with Episode One. Robin Walker's heading up Episode One development, and David Spiros is heading up another team doing Episode Two.
Newell also makes note that no Half-Life movie is in the works, based on how horrible all of the scripts have been that he's seen. He also takes a little jab against certain, un-named directors who crank out worthless movies before a tax loophole is filled. Sadly, there is no new news about Team Fortress 2, but there will be new tech demos coming out this year according to a statement from Newell. Don't take my word for it though, go read it for youself!

That interview was good, although it was longer than episode 1. The thing about naming it Half-Life 3: Episode 1 was interesting~

I'm also curious as to how he pictures gordon talking in the movies. Is he witty, gruff, silent, or what?

Gpig, thats the thing thats bothered me about any and all ideas for a Half-Life movie.

I mean - I am a big fan of the whole Half-Life Story....but how can you make a movie out of it when the lead character NEVER speaks?

The Halo movie is ALMOST like that, but the Chief does speak at least a few very small lines and they can therfore expand upon that.

But Half-Life and a Freeman who has NEVER talked? I don't see it ever working.

Oh well, could just be me....

There seems to be a lot of problems with writing a script for Half-Life. Half-Life 2 would work better since he interacts with people quite frequently and it could be set in a city. Not to mention the Ravenholm scene would be awesome. Half-Life 2 is an action scene followed by talking to people, or in the case of the end you're working with a squad. Half-Life just seems like it would be really hard to write with the majority of the time Gordon being alone. I guess they could write it so that Barney was with him almost the whole time.

They could give it the Resident Evil treatment. Use the game as a background and take HEAVY POETIC LICENCE.
