Solved my problem, finally. Thanks Zips, for telling me how to submit an error report.

      uh oh, a bug...

my game lagged for like 15 minutes at the part where you are on an elevator going down and debris is raining down on you...when the debris hit the elevator and i fell, the screen froze and the sound went all funky.

Honestly, I'm tired of hearing that the game was too short for the price. The whole reason the game is only $20 is because *bonk* it is indeed. SHORT

HL2 was nearly $60, for around, what, 10+ hours, $6 per hour? 3 hours to finish, that's $18. Sounds right to me...

Many people paid for different packages of HL2... mainly, because HL2 was not the only game included in the package. Counter-Strike: Source, DoD:S, etc... all of these were included in the silver package that I paid for. And to be quite frank, I bought HL2 only for those two games. CS:S and DoD:S. I would have paid $50 for just that...

When it comes to FPS games, singleplayer is where developers have a chance to create a production... similar to a movie... but multiplayer is where the replay value comes in. HL2, on it's own, has virtually no replay value because it's multiplayer sucks... to be quite frank.

This Episode 1 is essentially 2 hours worth of singleplayer gameplay. Let's be honest here. There is no replay value in it. It doesn't add any content to any of the other HL2 mods. There is really no reason to buy it whatsoever other than to waste $20 for 2 hours worth of gameplay.

Many people are fans of HL2 and will disagree with my assessment of things and that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, with Valve coming out with 3 of these "Episodes", and they are nothing more than 2-4 hours worth of singleplayer gameplay, adding no other content to any of the mods... I'd rather just save $60, read the spoilers and find out what happens to the HEROIC GORDON FREEMAN from you guys.

They have the commentary, which is in itself replay value. It may not add new content, but VALVe is always adding new content to their other mods anyways. Hence the platform STEAM.

I suppose I was one of the lucky few who had _no_ problems getting hl2 to work when it was released via steam (on dial-up no less). Now I have massive stuttering issues.

As a matter of fact it's so bad I'm getting BSOD'D on averge every 10 mintues. The game starts stuttering and If i'm not lucky enough to get task manager to come up to kill hl2.exe it BSOD's. I've traced it to auto save, and I think it's BOSDing because of an IRQ conflict. (sometimes I get an IRQ NOT LESS OR GREATER THEN error) However, the only device that's sharing the IRQ with my SATA/RAID controller is a USB controller. And no other games give me this problem. I'll try disabling the USB controller later, when I have some free time. (wed. if I'm lucky)

It could be my machine, but it's not that bad.

I've gotten the IRQ with some videocard drivers I had that weren't exactly playing nice with Guild Wars. Happened out of the blue with a GW update, but it wasn't the game at fault. I had to upgrade the drivers before it'd actually work for me.

Strangely enough, I actually get better performance now in Episode 1 as compared to the original Half-Life 2, even with HDR.

Updated the drivers, but still no free time.

They said somewhere that they were able to update and optimize the graphics for Episode 1 because of their port to a console. They knew exactly what they could tweak to make frame rate better, while still mainting the highest quality possible..
