Game Informer recently made a trip to Valve to get the latest on Half-Life 2: Episode 1 before its release on the 1st. The preview provides a number of details about the game. I suppose a spoiler warning may be necessary before you go read it, but there's nothing exceptionally major spoiled there. You've been warned though.
There are over 40 new screenshots from the game, and a five part interview with Valve's Robin Walker that features some gameplay footage spliced in. Robin hits upon such subjects as the way the episodes will play out, what to expect in terms of story progression, the design choices made for Alyx, some of the graphical and technological strides made since Half-Life 2, and what to expect in the future.
There are a number of interesting points from the five part interview. Throughout the videos you can see a Zombine in action along with other gameplay elements. There was also a statement from Robin saying that there will be a higher graphical setting above the current "high" setting in Episode 1. This is to make better use of the newest graphics cards on the market currently. In addition, there are some upgrades to DirectX 7 graphics and performance. Alyx also has somewhere around 2.5 times the number of animations she had in Half-Life 2, and 3 times the texture budget.
