    Episode 1 Launch Teaser

As noted in a prior update, Valve has delivered on the first new media release for Half-Life 2: Episode 1. This update also notes that Valve plans on keeping the Episodes confined to a trilogy, at least on their end. You can access the new trailer right here or by viewing the media section within Steam's store browser.

The press release re-confirms the June 1st release of Episode 1, states that the trilogy is planned to come to a conclusion by Christmas of 2007, and that Episode 1 will include a sneak peak of what to expect in Episode 2. The press release, in full, is right below.
Bellevue, WA, May 22, 2006 - Valve®, developer of the blockbuster series Half-Life® and Counter-StrikeTM, announced Half-Life® 2: Episode One has gone gold. Episode One is the first in a trilogy of episodes that will conclude by Christmas of 2007.

Half-Life 2: Episode One advances the 15-million unit selling franchise and launches the first in a new, three-part series that leads far beyond City 17. Half-Life 2: Episode One does not require Half-Life 2 to play, and will be available via Steam® and at retail stores in North America for just $19.95 on June 1st. Also included in Episode One is a first look at Episode Two, which will ship by year's end.[break="More of the press release"]"Given the rapid changes in PC gaming, we expect episodic games will have the same impact on single-player gaming that Counter-Strike had on multiplayer," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "The frequent releases of upgraded technology and new content works better for both consumers and developers, and is one of the key reasons Counter-Strike grew to be 80% of the online action market. We decided that a follow-up to Half-Life 2 delivered in 18 months with our first episode was more in tune with what our customers want than waiting 6 years for another monolithic product."

Episode One offers a new single player experience created by Valve, and is designed to be four to six hours in length. Stepping into the hazard suit of Dr. Gordon Freeman, you face the immediate repercussions of your actions in City 17 and the Citadel. Alyx Vance and her robot, Dog, will accompany you in your efforts to aid in the human resistance's desperate battle against the totalitarian alien menace of the Combine.

In addition to the new single player experience, two multiplayer games are included. And those who purchase Episode One will have free access via Steam (www.steamgames.com) to Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, the interactive technology demo that introduces High Dynamic Range lighting to the SourceTM Engine, Valve's award-winning game technology.

There will be multiple teaser trailers from what I understand.

Are you trying to get it via the Steam browser window or by this link?

If you're trying to access it via the weblink, you may need to repair the Steam install to restore the steam:// protocol.

Half-life 2 was my favorite game, so more of Half-Life 2 isn't something I'm against. I just liked how when Half-Life 2 came out it was a new engine with awesome technology and gameplay. The episodes are just like expansion packs for the original Half-Life except shorter and named poorly so I'm still going to enjoy them. I just want a Half-Life 3 with an awesome engine. Half-Life 2 exceeded my expectations, but these episodes can't because they're using the same engine and they're shorter. Half-Life 2 was like a bunch of really awesome 3 hour segments glued together into a cohesive package with shooting that matched Painkiller (well, the magnum, crossbow, and shotgun matched it).

                      Yeah, the trailer is rubbish.

Definitely going to get episode one though. City 17 better blow up at the end, because I'm pretty sure I'm going to get bored of that place soon.

i wonder what parts of HL2 that were deleted from game get to make it into this episodic stuff cause there was loads stuff cut from HL2 due to time facto for release as it was over 1yr late when it did make it, i just cant help but wonder if alot of deleted stuff all ready to be made into an add on and milk the HL2 fans dry more $$$ for valve that way.

SiN Episodes: Emergence could just as easliy have been a HL2 Episode. Sound, graphics and gameplay are identical and Jessica is way hotter than Alyx (as cartoons go).
