    Microsoft Spins Valve Right Round

It was announced today that Valve and Microsoft have come to an agreement that will allow for Valve to produce future titles on the Xbox 360 game console.
The coming titles will be powered by a customized version of SourceTM, the technology that powered Valve’s Half-Life 2. Source provides state of the art performance in graphics, networking, artificial intelligence, physics simulation and more.

“The combination of Source and the 360 provides game designers the chance to create powerful entertainment experiences, said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. “Whether developing a traditional FPS, RTS, RPG or delving into new genres, the Xbox 360 is a great platform for expanding Source and our game experiences.

The Valve 360 products are being designed to leverage the Xbox 360’s advanced graphics hardware and integration with Xbox Live online game service.
There is no word yet what titles will make an appearance on the console. With Live's content distribution method, perhaps it be a safe bet to assume that future Half-Life 2 episodes will make an appearance?

Let me quote Mr. Newell from a month old i-view:
GI: Valve did an Xbox version of Half-Life 2. Were you happy with that? Are you thinking about doing more things with consoles or staying on PC?

Newell: That product was the first big retail disappointment we’ve had in the history of the company. So that sort of caused us to scratch our heads a little bit. We’ve never missed our forecast on any significant product before, so the fact that that product under performed by somewhere between the factor of two to three was really surprising to us. We still haven’t figured out what the hell that meant. There’s certainly certain technology investments that we’re interested in, and we’ll continue to make, but right now it’s sort of hard for us to get excited about the Xbox 360s install base, and the PS3 slipping so that’s where we are.
            Interesting$announcement.

I would like to see mouse+keyboard combo come out for the 360. That would be just kickin'!

                Sigh.

I JUST picked up HL2 for the original Xbox and it seems surprisingly sub-par. I was already expecting scaled down graphics and all, but it was even worse that what I imagined. =/

I wish they would just release a X360 compatibility patch that upscaled the Xbox version to some decent quality but that's just a pipe dream...

I'll pass. Hopefully Valve will make more, and different games for the PC.

Eh, this will probably turn out bad like on the Xbox. Unless they actually market their products...

                          More press releases!
"The combination of Source and the 360 provides game designers the chance to create powerful entertainment experiences," says Newell. "With this combination, it's exactly the thing to make the 360 suck more via mediocre games made by lazy assholes who are more intersted in making ports and spreading their PC stench to the console world than actually making interesting games tailored to the particular platform. Which is fine, since Microsoft strived to remove from the 360 any unique hardware features".

After a long pause, he addd "At least you retards will finally have something to play on your $400 console besides a bunch of 20-year old arcade games."

They're arguably the kings of the PC development realm, and the 360 doesn't offer gamers anything more than a dumbed down PC gaming experience.

But yeah, I guess if you're dumb enough to spend $400 on a 360, you're dumb enough to spend $50-$60 on a lesser game ported from the PC.

State of the art performance in artificial intelligence?

                              Umm.. not really no.

Pacman got better AI than HL2, no offence.
