AMD Lead Title Sponsor for CPL

Angel Munoz of the Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) passes along word that AMD has become the title sponsor of the league. This essentially means that AMD is now the worldwide sponsor for upcoming CPL events.
The CPL Announces AMD as Lead Title Sponsor

The Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) is proud to announce that Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has become the Worldwide Lead Title Sponsor of the league.

AMD, a leading global provider of innovative microprocessor solutions for computing, communications and consumer electronics markets, will be the lead title sponsor of CPL’s worldwide tournaments and also the primary sponsor of the Winter Championships.

“We are very excited that AMD is able to team-up with us as the event’s lead title sponsor and help expand CPL’s worldwide reach, said Angel Munoz, Founder and President of the CPL. “ AMD is a fantastic addition to all of the companies now sponsoring our sport and we look forward to a long relationship with them. This new collaboration should help further highlight AMD’s cutting-edge technologies that have made them the top choice of gamers worldwide.

"AMD is proud to be the lead title sponsor of the CPL and demonstrate our long commitment pro-gaming as well as gamers in general, said Leslie Sobon, director, product & brand management, desktop division, AMD. “AMD Athlon™ 64 FX dual-core processors are designed to give professional gamers the performance that takes their game to a new level. Through our technology leadership AMD drives competition, giving champions the power to win.

The Cyberathlete Professional League® (CPL) is the most recognized name in professional computer game competitions. Launched in 1997, the CPL is also the world’s first professional videogames league.

Intel (along nVidia) left the CPL some months ago (intel teamed up with the world series of video games), and they started selling cpl licences to small LAN organizers around the world. This is the first good news about the cpl this year.

The selling of CPL licenses to experienced partners and the termination of Intel's sponsorship contract are not related in one bit. We appreciate you think this new announcement is good news.

Thats great news for AMD! They are going to have to do a lot of marketing towards gamers to get them to bite the bullet on AM2 instead of moving on to Intel's Conroe.

It will be interesting to see if Intel sponsors Quakecon this year. Even though they were the sponsor, they turned down an invitation to [H]ardOCP. If they sponsor again (or even if they don't), I wonder if they will speak this time around.

Actually, Angel sent me an email about this a couple of hours before I posted this.

... And why didn't you just post this directly since you were here before me? You have the means and the access to.

only reason why i like intel more as a sponsor is because their logo looks cooler.
