Hardware Survey results in... And the winner is:

There has been a new Steam Update, with some interesting notes about the state of hardware used to play Valve and others' games on Steam. Also, there is news of a recent update for Darwinia.

In other Steam related news, this week also saw the release of Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45.
Recently we refreshed the Steam hardware survey to get a fresh look at what kind of hardware the community is currently running. In this version of the survey, which many of you have already seen, we are gathering a number of new pieces of data. Now that we're approaching 500,000 unique responses, there are a few trends worth noting:
    • Most of you (88%) are running with a traditional CRT as your display device.

    • The split between AMD and Intel processors continues to stay very close as it has in the past. AMD has a slight lead with 52% of the community's processors.

    • Nvidia and ATI video cards are the dominant providers, with Nvidia cards occupying about 52% of your PCs.

    • Most of you have DVD drives in your PCs, or around 92%.
You can also check out the full results of the survey.

Meanwhile, Introversion released an update to Darwinia last week to add a difficulty system to the game. People who purchased the game should have a fun challenge trying to make it through some of the later levels with these higher difficulty levels.

I'm surprised that less than 2% of people are running 1600x1200... I figured there would be more than that. I guess 1280x1024 is the popular resolution above 1024x768.

And who are the 763 people with less than 10GB of total hard drive space? LOL

I'm sitting pretty with my PC specs.

However, my network speed is brutal compared to most...

1280x1024 is probably popular because of 17" LCDs...

And yeah, 10GB hd space is pretty pitiful, lol.

I wonder when we can say 10TB is pitiful.

I'd highly suspect that the people with < 10 gb of free hd space are kids with laptops. I know I use my lappy to play cs:s now and then, but my laptop only has ~33 gb (theoretically 40) of space to begin with, so it fills up quick.

No... it's 10 gb TOTAL space! Not just free space.

Well I'm running a LCD (with drivers installed) and it says in the hardware profile I'm running a CRT, so if mine was detected wrong, others probably were as well.
