    Half-Life 2: Episode ... 2?

Not ones to take things easy on themselves, the Valve crew has announced that they're already underway with Episode 2. Valve's Robin Walker spoke with Computer And Video Games about the second expansion into the Half-Life 2 universe.
Valve's Robin Walker, designer/engineer on Episode 1, informed us that Episode 2 "has been in development for some time" in an interview that'll be winging its way to you shortly. Although he didn't elaborate further, it sounds as though Episode 2 may appear sooner than we could have hoped. We're definitely keeping trigger fingers crossed on that one, especially as the developer has aimed to offer "between 4 to 6 hours" of gameplay time with Episode 1, according to Walker - shorter, perhaps, than fans might have expected.

During the interview, he also dropped a few teasers about Episode 1's storyline. Discussing the challenge of penning the plot for the episode in comparison to penning the plot for Half-Life 2, Walker said that the developer has had "to be considerate to our audience in terms of giving them what they want". While "Episode 1 will not end with an all-encompassing conclusion", it will address some specific questions, he revealed: "For example, "What happened to the Citadel at the end of Half-Life 2?" and "What happened to Breen, is he dead?" and "How does the G-Man factor into all of this?"
Thumbs up for the announcement of Episode 2, but a thumbs down for the apparent short gameplay time for Episode 1 (unless Robin is a master of Half-Life 2 and can just breeze through the episode like nobody else). Hopefully the prices per episode stay reasonable for the amount of gameplay the average gamer will experience.

It's probably a good idea to release Episode 1 before you hype Episode 2.

Don't feel so special, it was known back when Aftermath was announced that the expansions were going to be episodic content. Just because they changed the name to "Episode #" doesn't change a thing from their original plans.

If this bugs you, why don't you guys just wait for Episode 2 to be released and just play 1 and 2 together at the same time? It'll be twice as long, which is exactly what you're complaining about.

I'm not saying that 6 hours of gameplay is much to run with. I'm simply reserving my approval or disapproval for the actual experience, rather than just my current whim of how I feel it might be.

If Ep. 1 really does cover the G-Man's role in everything and some backstory on that, it'll make this a fairly notable piece of the entire Half-Life storyline...

Notice the MODERATORS are the only ones who think this is cool...how much hush money is Valve paying you guys again?

Have to say once again, this is just a way for Valve to make a helluva lot of money with little effort. Half-Life 2 was a great game, but damned if I'm gonna pay 15+ bucks to play 5-6 hours of a game.

I'm sorry, but where in my comment did I say it was a good or bad thing? Aside from the comment about the announcement for Episode 2 (new content is always good, I don't care who you are), I've been neutral about this.

I merely stated how it's always been the plan for Episodic releases.

If there is more G-Man backstory, it's all good.

if i play any video game for over two hours i become disgusted with myself and leave my house to go and do non virtual things

PS im fine with paying $15 for 6 hours of gameplay which i will probably break up over 2 weeks

4 hours of gameplay... now you people understand why i was, and still am so pissed off at this shit..

yeah right 6 hours? i'll bet you anything everyone who posted here will finish episode 1 in 2 hours, probably less.

6 hours.. you make me laugh valveh.. 6 hours to install the game maybe. but anyways, who cares, they already made it, no point in further arguing.

How long was Opposing Force? I can't imagine it being longer than 6 since HL1 was only 8 hours long. HL2 wasn't exactly epic either. You guys played many add-ons?

                              It's all a conspiracy!
