    An Intro to Counter-Strike

Whisper, known for his War Strats and unique ability to start heated debates on the HLDS mailing list, sends along word that he's made an Introduction to Counter-Strike.

The guide stays true to its title and actually lays down a sort of "instruction manual" that any potential newcomer to the CS world can enjoy and easily understand.
If you just press the Jump (Default SPACE BAR) Key you only move Vertically. Jump (Default SPACE BAR) Key and a Movement Key you will Jump Horizontally in the direction of that Movement Key. i.e. If you are pressing the FORWARD or BACKWARD Key at the same time you press JUMP, you will JUMP FORWARD or JUMP BACKWARD, depending upon which combination you used.
As you can see, it really is just an intro to the Counter-Strike world. If you're a seasoned vet or someone who has played this game for a few weeks already, don't expect to find any new tips here. Otherwise, to all CS "n00bs," this will be right up your alley.

It's really in-depth but i have to wonder, who knows so little about PC games in general that they can't figure out a decent chunk of this by just looking at the controls and playing for an hour or so on the different types of maps?

There's been far too many times where I've seen someone ask how to plant/diffuse the bomb. So, while it is uncommon it still happens.

Damn I remeber playing the training room for 1.5 I think it was... that taught you everything you needed to know. Better then reading something for an hour. But looks very detailed nonetheless.

The funniest part about encountering someone who obviously can't plant or defuse bombs (or doesn't know what he's doing in general) is trying to talk to them and teach them what to do. And they're just silent the whole time. Until you say "press y to talk" and then they say "o, thnx"

One of the best experiences of video games and specifically FPS games like CS is the experience of learning how to play on your own.

But really, I learned how to play CS by watching someone play it back in 2000. Oh the nostalgia of glocking other noobs in the face on a low res de_dust.

Always good to have an article like this now and then.

The initial year that I started playing CS, my tactic was to find an inconspicuous area on a map, and then sit and wait for someone to run by. That's how I "learned" to play CS.

instead of an article talking about how to play cs. they should have a report about the history of cs. many people play cs and don't even know anything about it.

'Diffuse' the bomb? Doesn't the definition of it exploding fit this term?

I applaud for the good initiative, but a more "hands-on" approach such as a few tutorial missions would be infinitely more useful.

Sort of like the tutorial mission included with CS Retail a long time back.

I have a strange urge to play the Counter-Strike retail tutorial mission ...

Anyone know where I can find it?

Only if you have the retail CD I think.

I remember the first map I played, and the first gun I bought. Aztec and the UMP. ^.^
