Steam News Update - DoD: Source & Red Orchestra

This week's Steam news update focuses on the success of the free Day of Defeat: Source weekend and hints at some new content in the works. It also doesn't hold back on promoting the third party game Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45.
Day of Defeat Free Weekend was a huge hit last weekend — thanks to everyone who took part. Thanks also to all the new players who took the time to send us feedback about the experience of playing DoD:S for the first time. As always, we have more in store for the DoD:S community; we're currently working on some pretty interesting new content for the game, which we'll talk about in the coming weeks.

Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 from Tripwire Interactive will debut on Steam next month, and is currently available for pre-purchase and pre-loading. Red Orchestra is a realistic online action game set in the Russian front of WWII that features thirteen scenarios, an arsenal of twenty-four weapons, and fourteen drivable vehicles including tanks and armored transports. In its March 2006 issue, PC Zone UK says Red Orchestra "touts a finely tuned balance of amazing gameplay and surprising realism." Check out the RO: 41-45 trailer and if the game looks like it's up your alley, go ahead and preload it now.
So there you have it. The whole deal, the whole news update from Steam. Feel free to discuss amongst yourselves if you wish.

I can't wait for Red Orchestra. It's nice to see a high quality game coming out on Steam that Valve hasn't made.

Why the hell does it need to be edited? Is it wrong to say that it's great that developers OTHER THAN Valve are bringing good games to Steam?

I think he was going more for the comment, valve dosent make great games, so this would be the first.

I would disagree as I have been playing CS for 6 years. meh but, to each their own

Jeesus it was a joke hinting at the fact that there have been no good games released through steam.

Alas, it was a joke and not necessarily my own opinion.

            I'll get my coat then...

If you didn't think Half-Life 2 was a good game, you just need to GTFO.

A lot of CS players have actually never played Half-Life 1 or 2.. It's pretty sad, I know..

first a SDK to make a lot of custom maps, stock maps are god damn boring on DoD:S, cramped, small and claustrophobical

Then get rid of the iron sights, give back bayonette and buttsmack, get rid of rifle grenades and give back sidearms as well.

Then put back the old weapons, K43, GreaseGun, M1 Carbine as main weapon.

Give back the Para and theyr awesome FG42's, bring back the Brits as well so they can have a good railgun as Germans have the K98

                      Get rid of smoke grenades.

Bring back the recoil/accuracy of all guns.

That is what people wants and what we won't get...

Yeah! Then downgrade the graphics a bit, bring back ultra-fast rendering speed, and call it "Day of Defeat" without the "Source" part that implies it's a different game -- people don't like that part either.

excuse me, Counter Strike Source is a straight port of the old CS, same guns, same maps, same things, only better

DoD:Source is another game, way different than old DoD and not as good as the old one either
