    Red Orchestra: OSTFRONT 41-45 Preloading

The next in the growing line of third party games on Steam, Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45, has just started the preloading process just minutes ago!
Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 is now available for pre-load and pre-purchase via Steam. Red Orchestra is a realistic WWII online action game that features one dozen scenarios, a wide arsenal, and drivable vehicles. Pre-loading is available with no obligation to purchase. Those who pre-purchase will save 10% off of the regular price of $24.95.
Fresh from their success of the Make Something Unreal contest, the Red Orchestra team is promising one of the most realistic WWII multiplayer gaming experiences. Featuring a number of land assault vehicles and ground troop combat, Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45 is slated for release in March.

Wow, look at the way the soliders mount onto vehicles and tanks. They actually show them getting in and setting it up, unlike most games where you just pop-up.Very impressive.

This actually looks like a potentially good game now.

Now, is this still UT engine powered? Is it still a free download as a mod for UT2004?

Yeah, you can get the mod versoin at www.redorchestramod.com

Apparentally they changed stuff between the two games, but I'm satisfied with DoD:S when I need my WWII FIXXX. That doesn't mean I play DoD:S much, I still mainly just play 1.6.

This uses Epic’s Unreal 2.5 Engine, but I wouldn't consider Ostfront 41-45 comparable to the older Red Orchestra mod. From what they've said, it will be a totally new and more expansive experience.

While this isn't a free mod for UT, the upside is that you don't have to buy UT2k4 to play it, and it's much cheaper.

If you're looking for more info on the game... the original Steam press release w/ details about it was posted here at CSN on 11/25/05.

I could swear that helmets were supposed to be ROUND and not hexagonal. :/

Oh well, I'm sure if it's anything like operation flashpoint style then it should be good. Problem is there are so many WW2 shooters and action games out there, that it's hard to see me taking the time or effort to download something that looks as mediocre as this.

I can't say what the final game will be like, but the trailer looked pretty cool. Still, the proof is in the playing... hopefully there will be some sort of demo.
