    MnWar Reviews Militia

Keeping with their tradition of reviewing the latest map releases for CS: Source, MnWar has pieced together their own Militia review for your reading enjoyment.
When you first take a gander at militia you are in the same state of awe that you were when you made those first steps in nuke. That is quite shortly lived if you're a Terrorist in the beginning though. You start out inside what seems to look like a barracks of some military school. Not exactly the simple single bedroom you find in the 1.6 counter-part. As a typical 1.6 player of this map, you do what anyone does when the round begins, you take a shot at the window. This is where things start going down hill. One-shot equals instant removal of this window. As a player of CS: Source you have come to expect the normal fall away glass that you can kind of just peck at. This is a bit of a disappointment, but not a major problem. We all like to make a nice smooth jump out that window anyway.
The review tends to focus on a lot of minor nit-picking but does a good job at comparing the 1.6 Militia to its Source counterpart.

Thanks CS Nation for posting our review. It's very much appreciated.

While, we even feel it's a bit nit picky, we wanted to let the community know about the features missing that many players have grown accustomed to. The glass being one of our favorites. The other thing we didn't mention and is also not in Militia is it's not as "playful" as the other maps as you cannot shoot most of the items around the house and they'll move/bounce, etc. like other CS:S maps. The map is beautiful though, and will be fun to frag on for few rounds :)

This is literally the worst piece of writing I have ever read. It's not just that I disagree with the comments made, but the review just concentrates on trivial points. I mean claiming that you don't like the scenery because you're not Meryl Streep, is neither funny, nor relevent. It's like claiming you don't like dust, because you're not Saddam Hussein and don't like the middle east.

Paragraphs are cited on why the map looks rubbish on the terrorist end. That's plain wrong, instead of mentioning that now the house feels like a realistic middle of nowhere hideaway for cultists and militia men, we're told that it's too dark and odd. The old militia was just a house in the middle of nowhere, the new one actually feels like it could exist. And the glass shouldn't be the overused fallaway glass that we see all over Half Life 2, we need to see a clean hole in which we can make a jump through. Unlike office, you can't just put in large panes of glass, as it wouldn't work.

But the review hardly touches on the gameplay aspects of the map. Wouldn't it have been nice to have the light switch in the sewers? We could finally have a map in which night vision actually matters. What about the CZ style exit into the main yard? How does this actually affect gameplay? The wall shooting which seems lot more effective in this wooden house than before?

I know many "review" sites are just amateurs and not actual journalists, but seriously, you should vet reviews.

I encourage you to take the time and effort to write a review for us when the next map is released and show us if you can do better - See, at least they put out an effort to provide the CS community with something to read on this new map we all love =)

            GG MnWar - Thank You

I was actually thinking the same thing even before this new cs_militia was released.. I even e-mailed Gabe and Cliffe about it, but unfortunatly didn't get an answer.. I was a bit dissapointed to see there's no light-switch and no use for NV in the sewer/tunnel.. The NV is really kindof useless in CS:S atm.. But anyway, I really like this new cs_militia..

                This "review" was too biased.

To be honest, a review is not a review without pictures.

I've played the map, but what about those who haven't?

Vertigo, 747 and Survivor first. Then we'll talk Siege, fully operational APC version of course.

If you genuinely thought that their review was a high quality piece of writing, then fine. Then fine, but CSNation shouldn't just be rewarding other websites exposure because of their perceived effort, but their quality.
