We waited for more than a year, and all we got is new models? One of which was the first prototype model for CS:S?

      Wow....

      Unbelievable....

I honestly wouldn't complain if Valve never did another update to support CS:S from this point onwards. All of you paid for CS:S so you could play it in it's current form, so what's the big deal? All this "I was expecting more content by now" is drivel. If this lack of content irritates you so much it renders the game unplayable, then by all means stop playing. But if you're like me and still enjoy this game, then play it.

And honestly, how much do the player models matter?
That's absolutely wrong. The Steam delivery platform was designed so that new content could be delivered when it became available. And new content being added to CS has been the standard since it's creation. Upon purchasing HL2 (mainly just for CS:S) there was the understanding that there would be new content released through Steam. It wasn't just... oh here is what you paid for... basically, a Beta version.

And why shouldn't I complain? Why shouldn't I demand more if I am not satisfied? That's my right as a consumer. If you don't complain when you are dissatisfied, then companies will never feel an obligation to address any issues that you may have. It's the primary driving force of customer service... complaints!

And we're lucky enough to be part of an industry (as consumers) where we have almost direct access to companies and our issues are addressed more often than other industries. Gaming companies care about the feedback of gamers, and believe it or not, they care about the people that complain on forums. We're their meal-ticket.

I just hope that Valve is smart enough to realize that they have a loyal fan base and that they risk alienating them by stringing us along like this.

So if you are happy with CS:S as is. Then fine... disconnect your internet connection and don't ever update your game again. But me, I'll keep playing and watching for each update because what keeps me playing is the new stuff, the updates, etc... Even if it is just a new model or some remake of an old map, at least it's something to keep the game fresh.

Because sometime in the future, Valve is going to come out with another game, and if they turn off enough people, they are going to lose a lot of money. It's in their best interests to pay attention to the complaints.

Yes Valve is slow with updating CS:S lately, but it's complete BS to say they don't care about CS:S anymore as I see some people say here.. CS:S has gotten the most attention of all their games since it was launched last year, but a lot of people obviously only have shortterm memory as they only remember Valve talking about DoD:S and all these other games lately, they simply forget how many updates and new content CS:S already received before that time.. Sure, I don't like to wait this long for a few playermodels etc aswell like I said, but kerosine99 is right when he says that playermodels are not that important.. Hell, in old CS it was even considered "pro" if you only used 2 playermodels with the cl_minmodels command, and now the old CS hardcore (me included) are complaining that they want more models, that's a bit ironic tbh.. But anyway, to bad we have to wait such a long time before we have them all 8 back.. But then again, why should CS have 8 playermodels? Why not 6 or 10? It's all trivial really..

I hope cs_militia turns out cool, with a dark tunnel..

            I'm enlightened.

However, I very much believe because of the terrible modelling of the original SAS model, Valve scrapped that model and built the GIGN.

The model thing must be a joke to Valve now. They just seeing how mad they can make their own community. Only thing is its not funny at all.

Glad to hear yet another promise that some new models are coming out. Maybe this time it will actually happen, but like everything else with VALVe, I'll believe it when I'm looking at them in-game on my own computer.

They seem to be focusing their man power on DoD:S more so than anything and working on the Source engine. (Guess which games gets the new effects, DoD:S)
Honestly, I don't want any of those new features to be in CS:S. With the exception of color-correction, every one of them lowers the image-quality and clarity of the game... something you don't want in an extremely competitive environment like CS:S.

That said, they're really cool features for machinima, and seeing as they're general to the Source engine, they aren't restricted to DOD:S only, much as Zips already pointed out. I can imagine single-player benefitting from depth of field blur and such as well.

I guess they spread the new content as thin as possible to be able to keep giving us stuff for the next few years and keep people happy..
Sometimes it does come across as intentionally waiting just so they'll be releasing something on a regular basis.
About cs_militia, I hope you can turn off the tunnellight again as CT so it will become really dark so the use of NV is needed.. And hopefully it will be done in a way people can't cheat their way out by uping their gamma etc..
That'd be cool. NV has basically been a joke in CS since it was first added, and it'd be cool to see it actually be a useful tool.

haha, whew that never ceases to piss me off. that is not just stretching the truth, it is just plain lying. that was over 4 months ago, and they had the model [probably] close to completion then.
There have definitely been some big PR blunders, and unfortunately true to form they further those blunders by not discussing them, rather than clarifying the status of such things.

It is your right to complain, sure. Just so long as you're doing so with clear knowledge that they are not in anyway obligated to care about, respond to, or in any other way indulge your complaints.

I enjoy the 10 choices that CS:CZ offers me, instead of the petty 8 that CS1.6 has. Let's all complain that CS1.6 needs two more models! :P

Heh, but yeah... the lack of player models in CS:S has never bothered me. The frustrations with trying to use custom replacements for them, and the unmet claims of forthcoming models, however, both significantly bother me. Unfortunately, releasing an additional two models won't change either of those.

There is also a fairly high chance we'll be releasing an update
This is the kind of language they should use with every update, so at least they aren't making definite promises that will be broken later.

Yeah Nighthawk, I agree... NV goggles definitely have been a joke from the beginning. Wouldn't it be cool to implement infrared goggles instead? And have them work through smoke grenades? That'd at least be somewhat useful. Aside from the obvious uses, it would be pretty sweet to throw a couple smoke grenades into the garage attic in militia and click on the infrared goggles before storming in and taking out the confused camper.

That would be really cool, or better yet, combo goggles where you can switch between off/NV/IR with your regular bind. NV would give you a better picture of the scenery, where as IR would make navigation more difficult but highlight your enemies like flares. Thinking about it... both could be extremely advantageous modes if designed properly, and would make the goggles something people actually wanted to buy.

It's a brilliant (pun!) idea, anyway, even if I'm almost certain it will never see the light of day (another!) in CS. :P

That's the kind of language they use to keep the community comming back for more even though they have no intention of releasing said content.

It would be pretty hilarious if Valve released a SAS model instead of the GIGN "selection" that is shown. Obviously, the selection screen image shown shows the GIGN button for the sake of showing a selection screen but that could easily be there only for the purpose of being an example.

Just thought I'd add that. Good day.
