    VIP Mod December Media Release

SoopaFlyYT from Punk Ass Fraggers has released the December media release for the upcoming VIP mod for CS: Source.
In the December 1st update Valve announced that they "Exposed VIP player index to plugins/mods". This was specifically due to us working with Turtle Rock studios on adding the ability to see the VIP as a different color in the radar and naming the VIP in the scoreboard. Turtle Rock Studios told us a couple months ago that they would expose this code for us but they weren't sure when it would make an update. Well, now we know and we are extremely grateful for their help.

Due to needing to recode the plugin, we have been also coming up with and implementing a few new surprises to the VIP Mod system. I think the community is really going to love some of the things we're adding.

I have been looking forward to this mod far more than new player models. If those screenshots are anything to judge by (sadly missed the public beta tests) then this is shaping up very nicely. :)

On a side-note, Vapour is a pretty convenient setup, I must say. The layout and interface isn't my favorite for the main program / games list, but once you're browsing through maps for a specific game, it's a handy and very user-friendly experience.

My only beef with Vapour is that it won't preserve custom changes to your liblist.gam or gameinfo.txt file when updating a mod. For reference, those are the files you have to modify to get custom icons for you 3rd-party mods.

One additional slight critique... seriously, not turning on AA when making screenshots is just lazy, and takes away from the beauty of what you're trying to present. Yes, you may have to suffer lower FPS for a minute while you find that perfect spot, but the end result is more than worth it. :)

guess you didn't read the december media release on the site.

The mod isn't out yet. We are still waiting, ever so patiently, for the SDK to be updated so the cubemap/lighting bug is fixed. Then all the VIP Mod maps can be compiled properly. Once that is done we'll run all the maps through a final play test and then zip it all up (and create the vapour installer) and release it.

Will this mod be free? What the hell is Vapour? Why is there a u in there (everybody lives in America -- just see West Side Story)? Why not just distribute it over Steam? What does it do that Steam can't do? Who let the dogs out?

Yes. This. Vapor, Vapour. Color, Colour. It's all the same in the end. How would it be distributed over Steam if Valve doesn't want to deal with the VIP mod themselves, and 3rd party mod updates aren't supported (yet)? It updates 3rd party mods automatically as well as installs maps without the user doing anything more than clicking what they want. I did.

Perhaps a better question is who put the dogs in in the first place?

                          Will this mod be free?

                          Yes, totally free.

                          What the hell is Vapour?

Vapour is a content delivery system similar in natur to STEAM. The difference is that it was developed to freely distribute 3rd party mods, maps and custom content for many different games. You simply install it and then browse the categories for the files you would like to check out. Find a map or mod you want? Just click install and it does the rest. go to http://www.vapour-online.com for more info or to download it and try it out.

Why is there a u in there (everybody lives in America -- just see West Side Story)?

This question can be left to rest.

Why not just distribute it over Steam?

Becaise Valve doesn't distribute 3rd party mods. The certainly wouldn't do it for free.

What does it do that Steam can't do?

                          Read the above answer

                          Who let the dogs out?

                          Who, who who who....
