Isn't the very existence of the -refresh command, the Source engine's ability to deal with the stupid 60hz refresh bug in Win2k/XP like most other games can?
I use ATi tray tools too and am covered for all of my 100Hz gaming needs.
Last time I checked, none of my other games crash to desktop if I try to run them by double-clicking the default icon, instead of having to search the net and find come command line switches to add.
In addition, my other games allow me to change the resolution in the game. If I try to switch the res once I've launched CS:S, it will again crash to the desktop, because it will try to keep whatever refresh rate I was running before, instead of picking one that actually works for that resolution.
Simply put, it's a rather sad lack of default behavior that you have to correct by finding command line switches like these. It's not that the Source engine can't run properly, it's just that it lacks a proper auto-detection routine. For quite a few of us who don't like gaming at 60hz... that's quite a disappointing shortcoming.
nuke's pretty fun, I played with some bots and one player... I think the bots beat us didn't try HDR because my card can't really handle it (fps just tanks). once we start getting new player models i think CS source will become the game we all want it to be
ya it was -1024 -768 and it fixed it now cs source loads, i deactivated hdr. works fine now thanks for remembering the command line.
also i like the new de nuke but i do believe they could of done a better job... as for new player models i hope they fix the old ones... i mean i love the ct model but the t model is just ugly...
oh ya... and hopefully the new models wont stack fps lag :P
um also, the new bots still suck... i dont think they will ever get them right... i saw a bot try to defuse the bomb but couldnt due to a terrorist that died near / on the bomb. and the ct bot couldnt defuse the bomb on a box... or when a ak47 was on the bomb.
this was tested on the new de_nuke with 5 T bots 4 CT bots and me on ct, the errors were in upper bomb site.
I disagree.. I think CS:S has the best bots I've ever seen in any FPS PC game.. Sure, there's always room for improvement, they still sometimes do stupid things, but they're already pretty good.. I even think they could fool some people thinking they were human players if they didn't know there were bots in the server.. When you see them strafe in & out and shoot now it's just like a human player.. I also think the bots play smarter then a lot of real people on publics.. Bots play better as T though because I think they rush to much as CT, therefor when I play against them I always play CT and let the bots play T..
I personally just refuse to play with bots in general... when I play online, I want to play with people, not machines. I'll play a good single-player game instead if I'm not looking for human interaction.
After all... half of the fun I have playing CS is just shooting the breeze and laughing with the other guys, and having a bunch of bots just takes away from that experience. Yeah, it's an easy way to keep your server populated, but it drives people away too. I'm fine with bots existing and other people having the option of playing with them, definitely. I wish there was an easier way to filter out servers that have bots on them, though.
Me too. The best workaround is to first enable to Bots tab, then click on it after getting the server list. Scroll down past the bot servers and the others without bots will still be ordered by the tab you last clicked.
If I wanted to play with bots I would set up my own game.
