apparently csn is hiring anyone these days, or else you could come up with something better than "oh this kid is stoopid his skool must suxx0r lolololol"
It's really sad to think that this kid has probably gone through most of the public education system, and still can't figure out what digital content delivery of stand-alone games means.
"What? People work as programmers, artists, and game designers... and they expect to be paid for their work instead of starving while they give away everything for free?"
Everyone, let's start voting for money to be taken away from public education -- it's obviously not working, so why waste any more funding on it?
but either way, youre saying i cant use the power of reasoning? Look at the two games that were just released... theyre forcing us to pay for a game that looks worse than something on the nintendo 64!!! If they can con us out of money for that piece of crap they call software, why couldnt they con us out of money with (IMO) a pretty good mod for the Unreal engine? Yeah, did you hear? its not even a full game, you can already get for free without steam. not to mention that its the exact same thing as day of defeat, kind if like saying "why the fuck would you want to buy swat 4 when you have CS?"
-YES i said free, the UT2004 demo allows you to play any mod if you know what to do.Comment

Someone please make this game! After all, the tea references in Armed and Dangerous were rather amusing to me.
well what you expect, they gonna make a mod where the object is to drink tea and have crumpets with another player?

I don't own either of the releases you speak of, and to this point still haven't been forced to pay anything. If you mean you have to pay to play these two games, then you've finally realized that things you buy cost money. Congratulations.

If you could comprehend what you read, you'd realize that the Red Orchestra mod for UT2k4 is not what is being released over Steam, but rather a full, independently produced game licensing technology from Epic software. While this game shares a similar name as the previous UT2k4 mod, they aren't the same thing. One is a free mod for a game you pay for, while the other is a standalone game you pay for.
Either way you pay, unless of course you are advocating illegal software piracy, which is something that is against our posted rules and is a bannable offense here at CSN.refux wrote..
Listen to this man.
wolf8218 I applaud your effort to follow up your first post with a further elaboration on how you just don't 'get it'.
I would suggest you stop digging.Comment

We're not kidding when we say it's painfully slow. I'm talking waiting between 2 and 3 minutes before even seeing an enemy, and if you're assaulting, you may as well type kill in the console because by the time you can see your stationary target (the models blend into the maps better than any game I've ever seen--the camo is just TOO good) you're toast, since practically every single hit is a kill. A total waste of time.Comment

Why?
uhhhmmm so then what are they going to do then?
Steam is going to have a game/mod that is on the UT2k4 engine?
That seems odd.
Rag Doll Kung Fu isn't on Source.
Darwinia isn't on Source.
... Why would this be any different just because it's a bigger named engine?Comment

I think it's gonna take a while for people to get the idea that Steam and Half-Life are not the same thing.
Imagine Steam as a client-side interface Amazon.com geared entirely towards gaming, and with only a few titles to choose from at the moment. It's a distribution platform (created and run by VALVe) completely apart from Half-Life, Source, or any other VALVe title.
So if you want to release something you've made, and VALVe thinks it's worthy of their platform... they will negotiate with you about the terms of releasing your product over their service. You make money, they make money, and it bypasses the traditional structure where a publishing company has to decide that it's worth creating 100,000 boxes for your game to ever see the light of day.Comment
