    Anti-Camp 0.1.0 Released

.robot sends along word that the latest version of his server-side anti-camp plugin has been released! The RACPlugin has been updated to work with a number of Source games, including CS: Source, DoD: Source, and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch as a stand alone plugin.
Well I finally got around to splicing the anticamp bit out of zhplugin and have released it as a standalone plugin that is for vanilla CS:S servers, as well as DOD:S and HL2DM. This plugin performs the following functions:

  • stops lame campers!

  • works with CS:S, DOD:S and HL2DM.

  • admin configurable anti camp positions.

  • weapon drop (dod and cs:s) or weapon switch (hl2) for small camp offences.

  • mega slap (cs:s and hl2dm) and health punishment for serial camping offences.
  • You really can't go wrong with a anti-camp plugin, especially if you're an admin of a public server.

I don't mind CTs camping on a de_map. This would be handy for T campers on de_maps, but if it counts for everyone then...well thats retarded.

as always there is good camping and bad camping

as logn as T's dont get punished for camping the hostages and the CTs dont get punished for camping bomb sites it should be ok.... i guess....

Apparently, (at least from what I can gather from the description) admins can mark an area that would be off limits for camping.

... So it would probably eliminate some of the issues you mentioned there if that is the case.

Honestly, I really hate plugins like this.

Don't get me wrong, I think the team on offense (cs_ = CTs, de_ = Ts) should be striving to complete the objective, rather than sitting at spawn with awps waiting for the other team to get sick of the round timer ending the round repeatedly.

That said, though, I've always had bad experiences with anti-camp servers in the past. Ultimately, it comes down to the plugin not being able to comprehend why you're doing what you're doing.

For instance... if you define the T spawn as a non-camp site, what happens when you chase the bomber back to there, kill him, and then want to defend the dropped bomb against any Ts coming for it?

But it can't just be team-specific either... there have been times where, as the only T alive, I've camped for 30-45 seconds or so with the bomb in a spot near the bombsite until it cleared out enough for me to do a quick plant and then retreat to an advantageous spot to defend from. That really sucks when the anti-camp plugin starts slapping you, alerting the CTs to your presence and ultimately resulting in loss of the round.

If you're running a server where you simply can't have admins present the bulk majority of the time, I guess this is an alternative, but in my opinion a vastly inferior one to an admin's discretion. Still, if plugins like this are going to exist... I'd rather see one that's highly configurable like this seems to be.

As Nighty says, a program is no replacement for a good admin.

Well... no existing program is a replacement for a good admin. I'm sure an adequate replacement could be made... not that it ever will. Would take a very, very long time making enough variables in a plugin for it to work as you would want it to.

Kind of like making bots that imitate human players, heh. I think we're all in agreement here, which is a startling change of pace for CSN. :)

Just to clarify it for you guys - this is not a plugin that will punish you for standing just anywhere for a period of time. It is programmed so that an admin can actually choose to mark any locations on the map that are deemed 'no-go' zones - ie you could put a marker in the sniper room on cbble for instance, and only if you camped there (for an amount of time determined by the server op) would you be punished.

That is the beauty of it - you can make as litlle as 1 no-go zone or even mark whole maps with hundreds of markers - it is entirely up to the server admin. It was actually written for the zombie horde plugin, as many players would just camp up high on boxes where the zombies (bots) could not navigate - leading to a 24/7 requirement for admins on zh servers. Many server ops requested a standalone version of it...so here it is...
