    Darwinia Coming to Steam

As mentioned in the most recent Steam news update a new game is on the way to Steam. Sorry, it's not Team Fortress 2, nor is it Counter-Strike 2 or Half-Life 2: Aftermath. Rather, it's a game called Darwinia and it looks to be like nothing you've ever played before.
Bellevue, WA. - "November 14, 2005" Valve and Introversion today announce that Darwinia, Introversion’s multi-genre title, will be available to gamers worldwide on December 14, 2005 via Steam.

Darwinia is the second release from Introversion, a UK-based development group originally founded by three university students who set out to create games that summon the pioneering spirit of the industry’s early classics. The follow up to this group’s debut title (Uplink), Darwinia is a captivating mix of multiple genres including real-time strategy, arcade, and puzzle games.

PC Gamer magazine UK says, “Darwinia will remind you why you love gaming so much." And Eurogamer.com calls Darwinia, “This year's underground classic.

“In today’s market, it’s incredibly difficult for an independent developer to secure worldwide distribution for a new property, let alone for one that attempts to blend genres and offer a wide variety of gameplay styles, said Vicky Arundel, head of marketing at Introversion. “Through Steam, however, we are able to offer Darwinia to millions of gamers and early adopters the world over.

“After playing the game around the office, there didn't seem to be a reason why a game as great as Darwinia wasn't available to gamers worldwide, said Doug Lombardi, director of marketing at Valve. "When everyone gets their chance to play it, we think they'll be staying up all night protecting Darwinians just like us."
Darwinia, a virtual themepark, finds the player battling an "evil red Viral Infection" to reclaim control of their computer network they call "home." Whew, that was a lot! You can look forward to a $19.95 price for Darwinia when it's released on December 14th via the Steam content delivery system.

Could Valve be any more out of touch with their fanbase? They have effectively killed the CS community while BF2 stole half of it. Kudos. Cheers to the final nail in the coffin.

I haven't played the demo yet, but the screenshots actually look pretty dang cool. Definitely has the neo-retro look... like a modern take on what old-school was all about, if "neo-retro" is even a definable term.

That said, I'll reserve judgement until I play the demo, because anything beyond first impressions before that point is clearly premature and pointless.

It's extremely fun. More fun then getting cancer and more meaning then pointless posts by Dark-Angel.

What does releasing another company's game on Steam have to do with Counter-strike? They add more people to Steam, while I can't see anybody who plays any other Steam game stopping because of a new game available... especially since Valve isn't going to be spending any bugcrunching time on another company's game.

This game is a lot of fun, and you have to use a lot of problem solving skills and other unique thinking to beat it. I had a blast playing it.

And for the Dark Angel's out there, NO ONE CARES WHAT YOU THINK.

Uplink was a amazing game, it will be interesting to see Darwinia on the steam platform. I have known about Darwinia for over a year now good to see they found a way to deliver it.
