    Lost Coast Next Week

The weekly Valve Community Update has landed. After pimping the They Hunger mod announcement, Valve details the release plans for the free Half-Life 2 technology demo:
Our current plan is to release Half-Life 2: Lost Coast next week. Lost Coast is a free level for everyone who owns Half-Life 2, and serves as an HDR technology demo based in an unreleased section of the "Highway 17" chapter of Half-Life 2.

After Lost Coast is released, we'll be working on getting some new content for both Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: Source, along with an update to the SDK, out the door. More info coming on that next week.
    Can ya dig it?

I applaud their continued announcements that there will be, at long last, work getting done on some new content for CS:S. Perhaps when the work begins, they can give us a hint as to when it will end. Wow, I might actually even play it again!

Oh, and that's kinda cool that Black Widow was able to keep the lid on the "They Hunger" mod that long. It's in stunning contrast to the customary technique of late of hyping your game to the moon before it's halfway finished and feeling forced into releasing a buggy/incomplete product that's doomed to critique and patches.

Was "They Hunger" for Half-Life really any good? I remember playing through the first level, and then skipping the last two as I was quite unimpressed.

I haven't played it in years so it probably hasn't aged well, but at the time it was a fun little atmospheric action/suspense game that was everything a well-made mappack/mod should be. I look forward to the sequel but my expectations will be a bit higher since it's now a commercial game.

Finally, new content for CS:Source. And I can't wait to try Lost Coast.

I remember playing through the first few levels of they hunger. I especially remember the opening scripted car accident. I was really impressed by the overall quality.

Then I realized it was pretty damn hard and there wasn't much ammo, so I stopped.

Have Valve made any comment about future support for 1.6? or they hoping it die slowly and players migrate to CS:s

They Hunger:LS is not a mod but a commercial product based on the source engine. It doesn't say that it's a mod just that it's based on one. Sorry for being pedantic, I'm just looking forward to it, I loved the 3 part HL mod.

doubt they'll be doing anything to it. it has a ton of maps and is as bug free and balanced as a multiplayer game can be. of course if engine exploits arise they'll patch them as they have done this already a few times. and VAC will keep getting updated of course. it isn't broke so they don't have to fix it. Now CS:S on the other hand :P

when you say future support what exactly do you mean? new models, new guns? - who wants to look at ugly models in the HL engine even if they are new, when there's Source around.

Woohoo!! maybe Valve do read the site from time to time, First time i heard Valve say "We'll be getting some new content for Counter-Strike:Source out!!" For ages!!!, maybe with the updates will come new improved hitboxes?, They should of been really sorted in beta stage... but seen as Counter-strike:Source still looks that way cant really say much.

Anyways nice news on lost coast.

I am looking forward to better hitboxes and update to Vac2 then Lost Coast personally...

But hey thats just me, What do i know.
