A DETAILED ANALYSIS OF THE SITUATION:

I'm going to give my two cents here. Why aren't Valve doing something about CS:S it seems like they are ignoring the community. Head to the steampowered forums and all you'll find are moderators who do try to help you, but are slightly biased towards Valve, which is understandable when you consider some of the children who post there. However, there are barely any responses from a member of the Valve team. To prove my point, I cited an example in which Gabe Newell (1 year and 2 weeks ago) said they would be adding other payment methods to steam as quick as possible. I sent a message to the creator of the payment issues thread on the steampowered forums, enquiring about the added payment options (Who is a valve employee) only to find that he did infact read my message straight away but never even responded to it, even though the forums gave no status or estimated time when new payment methods would be added. And to make it perfectly clear, i'm not having a moan, i'm just an average joe wanting his questions answered.

Another example, Whisper (creator of whispers basic war strats) from ausgamers has compiled an extensive bug thread, many of which have been prominent since the start of cs:source. To say that 'dod distracted us' is not professional is it ? In my opinion, that's just not good enough, there should be seperate teams that work on seperate projects, you can't just do a stop start approach with games like this, it just doesn't work and Valve have proved this time and time again. Do they even take the time to beta test ? It seems logical that you would, but do you remember the bug where the game crashed as soon as you fired an awp ? And the recent 3rd party games bug that refused to start them under the new steam architecture ?

Is there anyone else here who thinks like me ? I am a mature person who just wants to see the game fixed. There are problems there that are being pushed to the back seat, when really they should be put to the forefront. This has came around because of the amount of graphical and game based errors present in source, which you could spend an eternity trying to fix. However, so much time is spent trying to fix these problems, that content and general bug fixes seem to fall by the wayside.

It saddens me to see Valve leave cs:source by the wayside - the game has so much potential, to be expanded and improved upon, and be the sequel that it deserves to be, but those in charge refuse to listen to those who matter most in the community, those who can actually help make the game better.

Please don't flame me for this, I speak the truth, and do recognise that Valve do a wonderful job as a company, and I have immense respect for Gabe Newell and his team, but I, and many others feel that it's time we had some answers.

    Peace :)
No flame needed you are right on the money. There were/was high hopes for CS:S. Maybe in time it will get there. Maybe not. CS2 might come out.

Anyway, I should clarify something in my point. Sure, I think VALVe doesn't owe us anything, because CS:S is a port of CS to the Source engine, whether you consider it a good one or a crappy one.
So Valve dont owe us anything?

Course not! we just beta tested the game for them and reported bugs, Wait a minute who were the ones who told them you could dupilcate the bomb about 1 hundered times on a map? wait that was us or maybe it werent, maybe it was just valve acting stupid again..,

The problem with Valve is they aint listening to the community the actual thing that made them so big in the first place. Didnt you think that maybe if Valve listened to what we fans are actually saying there wouldnt be so much bitterness and bitching. But there would be a very strong and stable game the way it should of been, maybe if they thought wait up listen to what there saying, there saying dont put that map in because they dont like it...., would stop a hell of alot of complaints, people would be very happy with there product as they are actually helping in making the game better, So they kind of also feel involved like back in the old CS days. I mean well the community as a whole would be making the game better.

Gamers and Game developers working together to make the game better make sense?

I see people bitching all the time on here about certain maps and the models i mean me to. just like now, Sure there had always been bitching but i have never in my time of CS seen it get to this level, i mean Valve you have put in maps like CS_Havana which wasnt even popular in the first CS and no one wants to play it.

Someone said before were just the ones who play it "Yes" we are and thats why we know how the game should be, i have played CS since beta 3.0 of CS1 when Valve hadnt even touched the game or heard of it, The worst thing that could of happened to CS was Cliff and Gooseman selling the game, I mean they could of sold it but not of let Valve take control of everything!, Cliff and Gooseman Made CS not Valve and that is why CS 1.6 gameplay and everything in the game except the Graphics are better because they made the game from the ground up, Sure they used the HL code and Valve got involved in a few versions of CS but everything was already there so they couldnt mess the game up, All they could do was add a few weapons and tweaks, but Cliff and Gooseman worked with CS for how long before you took control Valve?, That is why CS:S will never be better than CS 1.6, Because Cliff and Gooseman listened to what there fans actually wanted and just generally knew what they wanted to achieve with the game themselfs. To me it seems Valve dont have the same expectations as Cliff and Gooseman did, Kind of like its Valves bit on the side project. All i could say is sure you own the game Valve but put it back into the hands of its rightful owners the ones who know what we want and you will be rewarded. Were not bitching we just want the game back the way it used to be with the added maps and the new maps and the now really nice graphics. lets not forget the players models. Come to think of it Valve all you have to do is skin over your other Counter-terrorist and Terrorist models and people would be jumping with joy. Its that simple.

All you have to do is listen were only here to help.

Just saying what i think sorry to rant on.

It would be real nice to hear someone from Valve comment on the situation of counter-strike source. (Can't you pull any strings Rizz ?), I'm sure they answer all your e-mails :) We just want to know where we stand, and where the game stands, that's all, nothing more, nothing less.

Oh - I also want to raise a point about what Nighthawk said. Correct, Valve aren't obliged to update the game and it's bugs or it's content, but take a look at your little banner on the very top of the page. 'Covering the future of counter-strike' When the old graphics and gameplay of cs 1.6 wear away and degradate with the new next gen fps's, where will the future lie - if not in counter strike source ?

You guys take this way too serious. FLIP I'm not 'trying' to be Valve's savior or what not. This is a forum, and as far as I remember forums are for posting your opinion on something... or your opinion on something someone else said.

As for my logic, do you really think I literally meant for you to 'get up off your ass'? As if you can just walk into Valve and say "hey I'm here to fix things" and they'll give you the thumbs up? Be serious.

At the end of it all it's still a game. A GAME. And yes - like Nighthawk said, they (Valve, or whoever you nitpickers want to get all technical abut) aren't obliged to do anything. But try to put yourself in their shoes - work long hours programming and what not, put out a product that has to live up to if not exceed a previous products popularity, and then you go to a community and everyday there's a complaint post or a "1.6 is better" post, etc.

Going back to the 'fanboy' comment, anyone registered to a CS forum (including everyone here, mind you) can be technically all referred to as "fanboys".

So before you get all sensitive (BTW the whacking off comment, that's not immature by itself) just remember that everyone here is entitled to their own opinion, and I gave mine in the first post above.

The second post was bait. And I'm sorry but the use of "LOL" has nothing to do with my degree of logic or maturity. "LOL" is common, if you didn't know. Welcome to the Internet.

If anything, Grimbal has a good arguement - the problem with Valve is that they don't seem to be listening. And why should they? People still gobble up the games, people still overload the servers the second a new update or version comes out, and CS (plus all it's encarnations) is still on or near the top as the most popular FPS online. So this is partly why I find both amusement and anooyance when people keep complaining about Valve - and likewise people who get all aggressive when someone posts something that's "on Valve's side".

Until someone from Valve themselves posts here and speaks for Valve in an official manner, forums like this are only one sided in a sense that you get all the complaints but no responses from the company you're complaining about in the first place.

So to all you people who don't like my opinion above, so be it. Continue to whine and complain to each other. I'd rather save any complaints, suggestions, or ideas for someone at Valve if they ever decide to include themselves in the community that CS created.

How popular is CS:S compared to 1.6/CZ? Not arguing, asking; I can't help but feel it lost a lot of fans. I'm curious now..

Also, I could be right and I could be wrong about this, but I'm sure valve must get some sort of glimpse at what is said at CSN. Maybe they don't- But if the company is professional.. Well.. I mean, this site is pretty bigtime and you think this stuff is worth a peek. If anything it's just nice to see how the community reacts to each update. Sure, there's people that bitch in EVERY update but that's because Source is being neglected, mate. Valve may owe us nothing but it's frustrating none the less when you don't get what you paid for..

In any case it's good news that CS:S is being updated and improved. Maybe they'll finally get back on track and complete the game. But until then, they've proven themselves to be unreliable and though there will *always* be flies in the ointment all they need to do is add the original models, maybe even a couple extra, give us a couple good maps, and presto! The community will soak their pants..es.

Agreed but at the same time even if CS:S wasn't "100%" when we first paid for it, being a long time CS player - you just know it'll take time before everything is back into place. I'm a CS:S player now, I don't touch 1.6 etc. because it looks so old compared to Source, and even when DOD:S came out the first thing I noticed was that there were only 4 maps. I didn't immediately post up at he DOD forum bitching about it... I guess that's just what other people just HAVE TO DO whenever something they expect to be perfect isn't.

Also, maybe the fact that Valve is controlling all things CS and DOD and CS:S etc. is a reason why day-to-day updates or feedback aren't common. Back before Valve got into the picture, CS and DOD were all projects of gamer/programmers who made mods for fun. They weren't worried about retail packaging, making shipments, etc. In other words they were not a large corporation. It's possible that the type of "personal feedback from the devs" that used to exist back in CS1.0 days is not feasible now that CS is a bigtime retail product now.

Go to any free developing mod and try to email the makers, chances are you can email them - or you see them active in their forums talking to people who play their mod. Back in CS1.0 days we were those people. Switch back to our situation and try to contact Valve. Guess what - all you can do is file a ticket at Steam Support.

And yes it's frustrating at times - I decided not to pay $10 just to move my previously paid for CS/WON CD-Key to my new Source account - and also the whole "no upgrade from bronze to silver" dilemma for everyone who was waiting for DOD:S... but because our favorite game(s) are in the hands of a corporation now, there is now a distinct seperation between the players and gamers in the CS community (us) compared to the staff and marketing and corporate officials who are probably more interested in profit than individual tailoring (Valve).

I hope they also updated the AI. All cs_maps are just dm_maps anyways...
