either way, despite how much I want the lost coast, I know once I play through it once, I will perform the obligatory "meh"

Man I hope Source goes down hard. What a pathetic game. I've never found a better example of 'graphics don't make the game' as this. Good thing I got it as an extra from buying HL2. Thought I was getting a bonus there. Was so very, very wrong. :>

Maybe I'm missing something but... pods? Whoever said anything about "pods"? From the context, I'm guessing it has something to do with VALVe's internal organization or something, but could I get a link?

Oh, and I don't really like the way VALVe releases 80% of their games on CD/DVD and the rest via. download on Steam in the "sometime distant future". It's especially unfriendly for 56k users like me.

          ROTFLMAO!

My Half-life 2 just popped into the Not Installed section. I swear...Steam is just getting weirder everyday.

all this bitching and yet everyone complaining is still using the product. That's what's funny.

I personally look forward to the updates, when they are ready, when they are available. Yes I paid for the game, and yes there may be bugs or what not - but in the beginning I chose to buy the game. It's not like the world is in some vacuum and I had no idea that CS:S wouldn't be 100% bug free or not with all the models or what not. I mean c'mon now people - if you're here on this website then it's almost a given that you follow the news and previews and reviews of CS and all related games... and then when it's out and you find it lag or you come across a bug, you whine and complain as if it was supposed to be 100% perfect? Hell even the OS you're using isn't 100% perfect, nor is the car you drive, nor is the world you live in.

Remember when CS started it was a free mod. Same with DOD. Same with the other mods. Valve bever bitched at you constantly about not paying for their hard work in the beginning did they?

Likewise no one made you play the game or buy the game but yourself. Stop bitching at Valve because they're doing a lot more than you are. they work out the bugs that come up, they create the updates and conversions. All you do is play.

If it's such a big deal to you that there's bugs or delays, then why don't you complainers get off your ass and do something about it yourself?

                  I didn't think so.

Looking forward to the new SAS model too - my personal favorite since v1.0. And when Friends is working, that'll be great - it was pretty useful during the Source beta, and I like how it's integrated into the game itself (unlike 3rd party comms like Ventrilo and X-Fire)

Thumbs up to Valve. Without them ther would be no CS or DOD like there is now. All you complainers would be playing WOW or something LOL

Yeah, they didn't bitch at us for not paying for the game because it wasn't their game. Valve didn't develop CS or DoD.

                    Nice try though.

No one said we had to work on the game when we purchased it. Saying "CS:Source is a port of CS to the Source engine" is false advertising, as CS:S is missing many things that CS had. People are mad because it seems that they've been lied to.
If it's such a big deal to you that there's bugs or delays, then why don't you complainers get off your ass and do something about it yourself?
This is the worst logic I've ever seen regarding the subject. If I was running a sandwich shop, and you asked me if you could buy a sandwich, I said "sure!" and threw it in a bag as you paid for it, would you be happy if you got home and only found bread? Could I just say "why don't you stop complaining and do something about it?" No, so why would someone say that here? If CS:Source was free, this flawed logic would be fair.
Thumbs up to Valve. Without them ther would be no CS or DOD like there is now.
Fucking fanboy. Just because Valve does some things right, does not mean they're infallible. You'll be better off opening Steam and whacking off at the sight of your games list than posting terrible arguments on here.

A DETAILED ANALYSIS OF THE SITUATION:

I'm going to give my two cents here. Why aren't Valve doing something about CS:S it seems like they are ignoring the community. Head to the steampowered forums and all you'll find are moderators who do try to help you, but are slightly biased towards Valve, which is understandable when you consider some of the children who post there. However, there are barely any responses from a member of the Valve team. To prove my point, I cited an example in which Gabe Newell (1 year and 2 weeks ago) said they would be adding other payment methods to steam as quick as possible. I sent a message to the creator of the payment issues thread on the steampowered forums, enquiring about the added payment options (Who is a valve employee) only to find that he did infact read my message straight away but never even responded to it, even though the forums gave no status or estimated time when new payment methods would be added. And to make it perfectly clear, i'm not having a moan, i'm just an average joe wanting his questions answered.

Another example, Whisper (creator of whispers basic war strats) from ausgamers has compiled an extensive bug thread, many of which have been prominent since the start of cs:source. To say that 'dod distracted us' is not professional is it ? In my opinion, that's just not good enough, there should be seperate teams that work on seperate projects, you can't just do a stop start approach with games like this, it just doesn't work and Valve have proved this time and time again. Do they even take the time to beta test ? It seems logical that you would, but do you remember the bug where the game crashed as soon as you fired an awp ? And the recent 3rd party games bug that refused to start them under the new steam architecture ?

Is there anyone else here who thinks like me ? I am a mature person who just wants to see the game fixed. There are problems there that are being pushed to the back seat, when really they should be put to the forefront. This has came around because of the amount of graphical and game based errors present in source, which you could spend an eternity trying to fix. However, so much time is spent trying to fix these problems, that content and general bug fixes seem to fall by the wayside.

It saddens me to see Valve leave cs:source by the wayside - the game has so much potential, to be expanded and improved upon, and be the sequel that it deserves to be, but those in charge refuse to listen to those who matter most in the community, those who can actually help make the game better.

Please don't flame me for this, I speak the truth, and do recognise that Valve do a wonderful job as a company, and I have immense respect for Gabe Newell and his team, but I, and many others feel that it's time we had some answers.

                      Peace :)

Port: To modify (software) for use on a different machine or platform.

A port of a game doesn't necessarily mean that it must contain every feature that in on the previous game. It is a modification of the original CS game-style onto a new engine. If they said something more specific, like "direct port", then perhaps it would be misleading. But with the wording as it was put, they're not obligated to port everything over.

I'm not worried, I'll just play Fable on PC until I turn 40... er... till the models come out.

Nice Strong Bad reference, thepingofdeath. :P

Anyway, I should clarify something in my point. Sure, I think VALVe doesn't owe us anything, because CS:S is a port of CS to the Source engine, whether you consider it a good one or a crappy one.

That said, I still prefer CZ to CS:S. Don't get me wrong, CS:S looks nicer, but the comfortable familiar feel of CZ appeals to me. That said, CS:S, whether you love it or hate it, was released "as is" like all other software, and in the end VALVe owes us nothing. Obviously, if they wish to maintain their reputation of exceptional support and longevity for their games, some of these issues should probably be addressed. But that's a matter of reputation, not of what they "owe" us.

Helkite, the best link I could give you about the "pod" system (or "cabal" and "hive" system as VALVe refers to it) is in Gamespot's fabulous Behind the Games series. They featured Half-Life 2, and this organization structure is detailed specifically on page 12.

It's not totally unique to them, though... I was able to find a quick article about the design concept behind pod organization of game companies.

Hope this clears that up for ya. :)

Yeah, okay |2aine. Why do you take the time to defend valve and patronize it with crummy logic- I really don't see why you'd take your precious time to act like a company's savior just to get flamebaited. And, gasp, you resort to mockery? You got pwnt, man. entRo's post just made you look like shit and 'LOL' just makes you look worse.

I don't see why people get so offended when people complain and whine on forums and such.. Complaining = good. Isn't it a positive thing for valve to know what's wrong with the game? What the community wants? It lets them know where to improve and attract and keep more audience. People bitch in hopes of having the problem solved, and in many cases as the numbers rise, the problem is solved. It's just too bad they have to sidetrack themselves with other games, it's all been said in the comments already..

I'm waiting for the day that CS:S is complete (or remotely so, no one yearns for 100% perfect.. we just want a good port of the classic) and then I'll be ready to fire it up and give it the love it deserves.
