Upcoming CS: Source Models and Maps Update

Remember that Steam news update from a while back that showcased the CS: Source SAS model? I vaguely remember it, which is why it comes as great news to receive an update as to the status of the model. According to Gabe Newell's FAQ, the CS: Source updates are still a little ways away.
What is happening with the announced CSS models and maps that were announced a couple months ago?

DoD distracted us. They are scheduled for after Lost Coast.
Well, when is lost coast slated to be released?
When will Half-Life 2: Lost Coast ship?

    At the end of October.
Those eager for a significant update to CS: Source still have a little while to wait. You can fill that time by enjoying the recently released Rag Doll Kung Fu! It is quite a bit of fun and offers a wide range of game types. Don't knock it until you've tried it!

I was glad to read that, although it pours a little water on the argument that Valve has X departments working on different projects, if DOD prevented them getting the models for CS:S finished.

For $12 I already got my moneys worth in amusement value in trying to reach the stars by taking 'shrooms and catching butterflys.

Well... the whole "pod" idea works under normal conditions. I'd say that for a major game release like DoD: Source a good number of pods combine to get bugs sorted out faster. I'd expect a good deal of planning and design are done in the smaller pods, but nearer the release it's a true company effort to get things done. Probably the same as with Aftermath. Various groups working on that right now, but nearer to the final release more and more people will work together to get it done.

And agreed on that RDKF thing. Eating mushrooms to get to the stars in a haze of rainbow colors and blurs, only to fend off wasps with butterfly power? I loved it.

This is inexcusable. Just release it already. It's obviously finished. Hell, CS:S still isn't finished yet and it was released over a year ago.

As far as the whole pods thing goes, you have to remember we're basically talking about an office full of gamers. When they get something into a playable beta form, you have to wonder how much real work happens for a while, hehe. :)

"Oh yeah... I'm uh, just bugtesting DoD:S right now Gabe... don't worry, those CS:S models will be ready really soon!" I don't mind too much, though, because unlike some of our visitors, I don't have an "everyone owes me everything I want" complex based off of assumptions and inward focus. Comments like "this is inexcusable" make me wonder where these people get off...

We all paid for it, and whether it's what we thought we were gonna get or not, VALVe owes us nothing. Sometimes I almost wish they'd just say "we decided not to release more player models due to excessive bitching" and watch the fireworks go off.

Just a question. The title stats Upcoming CS:Source Models and Maps update were was the info of maps?, the thing i dont really get about valve what they did with source is that they put in maps that were unpopular in Counter-strike?, i mean cs_havana over say cs_milltia no way!, i mean i dont know about you but i was told by valve that CS:Source was gonna be the port of the original Counter-strike except we were never told by valve a "Oh btw CS:S wont have hostage rescue maps and half the maps missing, also only 1 player model to each team but im sure you people wont mind...." wouldn't of been so hard for them to write a "we apolagise letter for the lack of data in the release of Counter-Strike:Source." not so hard really..., but none the less atleast were getting something that we want for once. Lets just hope its worth it.

What about gameplay? Did I pay for a game with so many bugs that the gameplay is so bad it's "inexcusable" CPL see it. You lose a match because of a defuse bug. :/ (Shadows, POV, tweak the guns, clipping, FB)

How long is Aftermath Episode 1?

We're aiming for around five hours. The last time I played through it took me six hours, so your mileage may vary.
Ok, they are talking to Gabe so you knows it's not 6 hours or even 5. I say about 3 hours of play. So how much is 3 hours of play going to cost?

The lack of player models is inexcusable. For this length of time, come off it...yeah, "valve owes us nothing"...MY ARSE! :)

I hope they can at least come up with the goods and show us it was worth the extraordinary long wait.

Yes, I'm on the band wagon! Along with MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice heading over the cliff to my almost certain doom for that last statement. But i would rather say have 'constructive' (well as constructive as I can be :P) critisisim of Valve, and it's painfully slow update policy in this (model) dept.

Or I could just join the ever burgeoning ranks on the other side of the fence with all my pussy mates who seem to think a 2 model half arsed attempt at a game like CS:Source is the best thing since sliced bread and anyone who dares critisise it is flame monkey of the year.

Then you show the people that haven't experienced 1.6 the choice of models (even if you don't like the default ones, you skin them to your preference) They all seem to agree that it is pretty disgraceful and that Valve are indeed taking the piss out of the "community" if you can call it that. In fact customer would be better...Please don't start any come back with hey CSS is free with HL2. Please, don't even start.

Then a while back it seems as if we could get models or skinable variations through 3rd party server mods, but all that got shat on from a great height after various steam updates .... /sigh..aye well done valve, now pick the ball up and run with it, you only dropped it like a year ago.

CS:Source, you eithier love it or hate it.. I just got bored.

                      /Back to RDKF.

As long as the product description says "Counter strike ported to the source engine" they DO owe us the extra player models... because that is a big feature of the game.

notice how it says, the models will be released AFTER lost coast, this could be another 3 months later :)

you have a point about valve not oweing us anything, but if they released it without any fixes or additions, alot of people wouldnt ever buy another product from VALVe as they know if its incomplete or doesnt work, its tough luck

I hope the maps are NEW maps and not just remakes of OLD maps I have already played 8000 times. Or maybe some of the cz maps ported would be nice. Vostok, Fastline and Sienna! Yum
