Hutz nailed it, and they're also putting ads in it. Source isn't a competitive game at the moment (and won't be until march or so when they release csp, but the maps will help), and they're forcing the competitive scene to switch if it wants to evolve. Not that I think the CGS league is a good idea. Max rounds 10 is a horrible idea, but any televised league can only do source, not the more competitive 1.6. It caused the #1 American team to switch to source only and other shakeups. That's what I call trying to bury it.

What about 1.3 or 1.1 or 1.0 or the many BETA versions? The idea behind the thought is the GoldSrc version, not the Source version.
So VALVe is trying to promote their current title instead of one we started playing the better part of a decade ago? Surprising, isn't it?!
Yes, CS1.6 has the better competitive scene, but let's be realistic here: is VALVe's primary interest doing what's best for the competitive scene, or in doing what's best for their pocketbooks? The more they push Source, the more likely they are to see new sales of their titles and interested 3rd party companies looking to license the engine.
If people are looking to advertise your game company on TV, what do you want uninformed people to think? You can choose between "wow, their games look outdated" or "wow, that's really sweet looking!" These potential customers don't know the finer points of which is the best competitive experience ever or whether there are interp problems or defuse bugs or any of that; they know the difference between old blurry angular walls and modern eye-candy--the rest of the combat looks much the same to the casual eye.
With that in mind, only allowing the updated graphics of Source to be televised is a no-brainer from their perspective.Comment
