CS: Source and HL1: Anthology Hits Retail

If you've been uninterested in playing the 2004 single player game of the year (read: Half-Life 2) and have been holding out strictly for Counter-Strike: Source, your wait is over. A Steampowered news release states that both Counter-Strike: Source and the Half-Life 1: Anthology are currently shipping to retail stores.
Valve Corporation today announced that Counter-Strike™: Source™ and the Half-Life® 1: Anthology are available now at retail outlets in North America.

In addition to the latest version of the world's number 1 online action game, Counter-Strike: Source also includes Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and Day of Defeat®: Source, the latest version of the popular WWII online action game from Valve. Meanwhile, the Half-Life 1: Anthology includes the original game, which earned over 50 game of the year awards and launched a franchise with over 15 million retail units sold, plus Half-Life: Opposing Force®, Half-Life: Blueshift®, and Team Fortress® Classic. Both products will ship to territories worldwide in the coming weeks.

For more information, please visit: www.valvesoftware.com
From what I have seen, CS: Source looks to retail for $40 (USD) and Half-Life 1: Anthology is around $20 (USD).

Why are they claiming that Couter Strike: Source is the world's number 1 online action game? when there own status page will tell them that most players still prefer cs1.6.

In addition to the latest version of the world's number 1 online action game,
Wording is key. It's saying that CS: Source is just the latest version (next in line, child to, etc etc) of the entire popular Counter-Strike universe. The CS universe == number 1 online action game.

It's marketing, ya know. Take something that's true, and phrase it in a way that's advantageous to your company's continued growth. :)

Not sure why HL1 would need a re-release (isn't there already the HL/BS/Op4/TFC/CS pack still sitting on store shelves?) unless they're just trying to get these titles out under the EA brand, like everything else.

One other note: while I still personally prefer playing CS1.6/CZ to CS:S, simply saying that it has more players doesn't necessarily mean more people prefer it. Those numbers simply mean more people play CS1.6 than play CS:S. That well could be because many of them haven't gotten CS:S yet, or because they don't have computers which can run CS:S nearly as well as CS1.6 plays.

I'm not saying that more people don't like CS1.6, I'm just saying that the numbers by themselves don't explicitly state that.

I think the normal store HL1 is just old Won HL without the Blue Shift and OpFor rather than Steam, which I'm sure would piss off anyone trying to get that to work online if they weren't informed. Plus that package isn't being produced anymore as you say Nighthawk since now EA have taken over from Vivendi.

Bleh! When I go to the quote post page most of it is obscured by nothing, (the background?) same as in my preferences.

              Using Internet Explorer I presume?

Nighthawk: EA = must put out new retail packages to collect as much cash as possible from the new publishing license.
