Well, I'm normally not one to defend Valve easily, but to say they've done nothing for the esports community is going a little far. For one, there is HLTV, which was designed and is being used almost exclusively by the esports community, both on a large and small scale.
Secondly, there was the change in the money system, which affected competitive play big time while it was quite unnoticed by the average player, mostly because it had close to no impact on public play (proven by the fact that almost everyone in here seems to have forgotten about it). Incidently, that change was introduced following a gotfrag article.
It's far from perfect, but could be worse. Concerning nuke, if I remember correctly, Valve doesn't have the rights to it, or has that changed? At least it used to be not included in the cs retail package for that reason.
And rizzuh, I don't think the competitive community would cry that much (even those on gotfrag
), mainly because the maps he chose aren't played much anyway, with the exception of cbble, which gets some playtime. And it would be up to the league to decide what maps to use (pro-dust or dust e.g.). The benefit of having Valve release the maps instead of using custom versions are obvious. Besides, if something like that should happen I could see the public community move over to the new maps as well (aztec or dust with more than 12 player public can be gruesome). You don't see many people playing q3dm6 instead of pro-q3dm6 in q3, for example.

I just wish Valve wasn't purposely leaving the most popular online game in the world aside to die, and instead focusing the bulk of their effort on something that a great majority of the community obviously doesn't prefer. Counter-Strike has twice as many players as Counter-Strike:Source, and more players than all of the other Steam based games combined--and thats not counting the thousands that play through the WON2 network. Even the competitive leagues and the CPL still prefer Counter-Strike. I understand that Valve may have expected and wanted Counter-Strike:"Source" to replace Counter-Strike, but the community obviously likes Counter-Strike better. In fact, I think most people would be more than satisfied if Valve, even while focusing the majority of their attention on Counter-Strike: Source, would at least give a decently sized content update to Counter-Strike once a year. They're starving to death something that is very great and could continue to be very great for years to come if only given a bit of deserved attention.Comment

i didnt agree with his dust part where he said, its more balanced on CS:S where theres a ledge from the sniper bit to the other side
whys that an advantage to the terrorists?
it just means the CTs now have more areas to camp and wait for you to come out of the tunnel
now when you walk out your being shot in the front back and all sidesComment
