    1UP's Valve Week Wraps Up

1UP.com Valve's week ends today. That's right, 1UP.com covered Valve for an entire week. They must have finally found out that we have a winning fomula here at CSN! Here's a recap of what happened with week @ 1UP.com"Or check out 1UP.com Valve's week homepage. This glorious Friday morning serves as a fitting end to Valve week. After this week, thousands of a petulant students who play CS will return to their high school studies in an attempt to prove that even complete social rejects have a place when it comes to getting a diploma. Maybe we'll learn what's harder: acing a Calculus III test via the running-start program, or not being able to maintain eye contact with any female under the age of 34 because one can ace a Calculus III test.

Seems like the video links for Gabe's interview don't work for me.

[edit]: Streams don't work for me but the .rar files do on the main page.

The Gabe interviews were the most interesting part, the idea of episodic content versus the feature length game standard is intriguing, as is image based rendering. He also implied HDR would be coming to CS:S

Talking about Sony/Microsoft seems to really grind his gears Streaming video card updates would be nice though, and it is stupid that the 360 won't have a harddrive as standard.

Now that we know Gabe's opinions on next-gen consoles, it seems that next-gen consoles aren't all that good after all...

...well, maybe for us gamers, yeah.

Gabe is a very very "in your face, won't tiptoe around the truth" sort of guy. I wouldn't say that he openly stated that CS: Source would be HDR-ified, but he did make mention that he'd like to see mods get the treatment.

... Something looks like it might be coming soonish though, if the Steampowered status page and the bandwidth dips are any indication.

I really enjoyed the interview done with Gabe Newell. He really, as the previous poster said, threw everything "in your face" and didn't hide what he truly felt about the new consoles.

I have developed a new respect for him and all game developers who have to deal with the ongoing rivalry between console hardware developers, and how they are, in turn, suffering because of it.

I was actually really impressed with the articles, media, and overall presentation done by 1UP. They didn't VALVe-bash or mindlessly go along as fanboys either, but instead voiced their doubts while remaining open to new ideas and recognizing where VALVe has done well.

I'd also agree with the previous comments about the interviews with Gabe Newell... he really doesn't pull his punches at times, and that makes for a much more interesting and meaningful interview than a simple PR job would have been.

Overall, 1UP did a great job of compiling a lot of history, current perspectives, and future ideas all into one tight feature. Well done.
