There are a number of reasons old 1.6 clans don't go to Source, same as why there are a number of reasons many individual players don't go to Source yet. From everything from hatred of Source (which you solely think is the reason) to the fact that their hardware may not be up to snuff, or they're just not good in Source.

If you're only going to cover one tournament, ESWC would be a far better choice. CPL scheduled CPL summer for the same time frame as the ESWC and the ESWC has much better prize money.

ESWC: NiP, 3D, col, mouz, icsu, virtus pro, forze, astralis, GG, wNv, x6, Lunatic Hai and clanIT to name some of the best teams.

Notable teams that have already been eliminated:

4K- They were a bad British team and now they're a bad international team. They lost a 15-0 half to the chinese team wNv, which is a backup team of the wNv team that went to WEG and then lost to x6, the best Spanish team. 4K is notable because they had a lot of hype going into it because they dropped the bad elements from there team(the British part) and picked up Scandinavian players like element.

ICSU- A team that beat out fnatic, EYE, and NiP to get 2nd at the ESWC Swedish qualifier was barely eliminated from group play today.

        fzer0- The only Australian team

SK.dk- The team formerly known as the Titans is knocked out of a tough group.

team9- This team has a famous name but not much else, it's not the same team that was the best in the world.

3D and col suffered blowout losses to forze and clanIT respectively but still move on from the first stages of group play.

CPL only has SK.swe, mibr, g3x, fnatic, EG, and rival. Rival didn't try to qualify for ESWC because they were at WEG, SK.swe didn't exist when the swedish qualifers rolled around, mibr, g3x, and fnatic all didn't qualify for their events. Fnatic was at the toughest qualifier by far but mibr and g3x really dropped the ball to some weaker competition at the Brazillian ESWC qualifier.

The best clans have extremely good computers typically. Complexity just won some 3.6 ghz comps for winning the ESWC qualifiers for instance. The teams that are good at source were very, very bad at 1.6. The best team in the game has only one player that I recognize(p0s) and he never made it past cal-p in 1.6. The teams that switch either like it(the lower level teams typically are like this) or simply can't hang with the much tougher competition in 1.6(the higher level source clans are like this). The only cal-i team that I can think of that switched over was TEC, and TEC is absolutely terrible. Elude keeps trying to build a team up around him of local texas players but the problem is all the local texas players that are good are already on teams so he has to pick up people like $hield. Elude really needs to just join another team, but the thought has never entered his mind(since he's been on TEC for 5 years).

I always thought these top "pro" players had high-end sponsored machines? And anyone that's good at CS 1.6 is also good at CS:S, since it's bassicly the same game (CS)..

People just have problems with change, especially if they're stuck in 1 single game for many years already.. That's still the biggest reason imho..

All I have been trying to find out is how Forbidden (seed #4) did against their first round seed #61 match for Source....

It'd be really interesting to have the top 10 CS:S clans duke it out against the top 10 CS1.6 clans, one match in each game. That'd pretty much answer whether each just specialize in their own flavor, or whether players of one or the other truly are superior.

Anyway, good luck to all, I don't really know the teams involved so no real favorites for me. Nice update on it though Gpig. :)

That's a lot of hate for 4K there gpig.

They were amazing when I played them as Infinity-esports, but then not following coverage too closely, dunno who they comprise now.

They're comprised of red, aku, element, goodfella, and mangiacapra. It just bothers me that they went international but people consider them British, they have the same amount of British people on their team as NoA. I just feel like they should have stayed all British. I mean, I don't mind picking up one foreign player because it can really give an interesting twist to your gameplay(as with mibr having bsl, vesslan, and element play for their team for a few months at a time or gamerco picking up dark), but they dropped most of their roster.

                  Switching gears.

If anything I'm a 3D fan and it bothers me that the only two people that are still on it are ksharp and rambo. I didn't mind volcano and boms(I think both of them meshed perfectly and are very skilled) but dominator and cbz are both very sketchy. I've seen dominator when he's on fire, but he's just too inconsistent.

Pfff, if that is all true (?!?) then I have to say those top CS 1.6 clans are very dumb!! Because why would they not compete in the CS:S competition if it's obviously so easy to win?? They are letting an easy $18.000 #1 spot slip.. Dumb dumb dumb!!

And before anyone comes up with 'but they don't play CS:S because it sucks and 1.6 rulez blablabla'.. Screw that if you can win big bucks, who cares what you think sucks or rulez.. Do you think Fatal!ty thinks all the games he played rule and others suck? I think not, he just plays what brings him the $$$, like a real pro gamer.. Obviously not many arround in CS..

This will happen some time in the future without a doubt.. Just not in the 2 games, but probably only in CS:S when everything has been converted to that latest CS version.. They cannot keep 1.6 for very much longer in those pro tournaments.. I know graphics aren't everyhting, but having followed the CPL on TSN via live stream today, I have to say CS 1.6 is really pushing it.. It's seriously outdated (no surprise running on a 1998 engine), just like DoD is.. Why keep using that if you have the same game arround in a slightly different version which is uptodate.. I give it another year (as a pro game), max..

CS:S and CS 1.6 are actually kinda different in the sense that CS:S is a lot easier then 1.6. In CS 1.6 I actually had to aim where as nowadays i just spray in the general direction of the enemy and 60% i get a headshot.
