    Looking at Assault

Valve invited me to their world HQ today (Tuesday) to take a look at the new at the new Assault! Included in the article are three new screenshots, so be sure to take a look:
Cliffe explained that with his version of Assault he was given more freedom than the company usually allows with map ports — or even remixes. Inferno and Dust II, for example, had to maintain certain lines of sight and unit distance with their earlier versions because of their competitive use. Assault wasn't forced to adhere to these criteria, Cliffe explained, because it's a map played on public servers and at LAN parties with friends.

The new terrorist model should ship with Assault.

With his years of experience with Counter-Strike and its finest details, Jess Cliffe has a keen eye when it comes to gameplay. It shows in the Assault remake. While Assault is still Assault — and terrorists still have somewhat of an advantage — there are various changes that give the gameplay more flavor and stand to give the CTs a fighting chance.
Check it out! Oh, and it has some info about DoD: Source and VAC2!

All Valve has to do now is make cs_militia for source and I'd be very happy.

Excellent, new article, rizzuh actually posting stuff, new map... ah, it's starting to feel like good old 2000 in the CS world again.

BTW, is it just me or is CSN going down randomly?

All good stuff in this article. And yeah since they don't mind doing pub favorites, maybe they will get militia in. I always wanted to see a good oilrig in source, but I can understand if they ignore it.

Oh that's a great read. From the different angles it looks like it's shaping up to be a beautiful map.

I can't believe that they're letting that guy who made port and compound make another probably terrible map.

why is the new terr model wearing lipstick? and what does this mean..
Speaking of the streets, one small detail is that the street lights across the map are synchronized as if they were real.
synchronized how? do they flash or something?

Hmm... It sounds like that the train tracks don't include a working train. If that's the case, it might be pretty cool to include a train that runs by every so often. Timed right, the noise created by it could give one side an advantage for a "silent" rush.

Also, I'm a little confused on the streetlights thing. Do they actually turn on and off? And Nuke? Oh that sounds awesome! I just wonder what other maps are included in the "quality maps from 1.6."

Either way, the information about the financial setup is a little disconcerning. I think they'd be well off once they start selling some of their package deal items, seperately. I know a number of people keep requesting DoD: Source or HL1: Source on the Steampowered boards since they bought retail. $10-$20 per additional game would probably rake in a good sum of money.

Might be wrong, but isn't this shaping up to basically be assault2k/assault_upc? (been so long since i played i cant remember which one of them had the upper door)

Great write-up. Valve is vehemently ardent about Steam's capabilities and the doors it has opened for them.

Yeah, the addition of the second back door is reminiscent of UPC a bit heavily.
