    Aftermath Q&A

Valve's Robin Walker recently sat down with GameSpot to discuss the upcoming expansion to Half-Life 2, Aftermath. Included in the interview are answers dealing with the story of Aftermath, the possible release timeframe, and Aftermath's multiplayer ties.
GameSpot: We know that Aftermath takes place immediately after the events in Half-Life 2, and we know that Alyx plays a big role in it. What else can you tell us about the expansion in terms of plot and setting?

Robin Walker: We don't want to spoil any surprises by getting into specifics. But to answer this in general terms, the entirety of the episode is set in City 17, and the driving force is the fact that, thanks to Gordon's actions at the end of Half-Life 2, the Citadel is about to give up the ghost in such a way that anyone left in the city will be killed.
That is just one of the many questions answered in the interview.

BF2 will be nowhere when Aftermath comes out this fall.

i'm sure vavle will invent some lame ass space-time warp thing involving the g-man (g = gay?) to save alyx from certain death in order to continue to capitalize off of their poorly designed sequel. that said, i'll buy it the day it comes out.

I figured when I beat the first one that Alyx was too important of a character to develop and then just let die, so I figured she'd just be badly hurt and knocked unconscious, but one of the gman's other minions would have taken care of getting her out. Odds are you'll have to figure out a way to save her from the new threat, and then she'll help you try to save humanity, ending in yet another pocketbook-padding cliffhanger.

But hey, if we're all suckers enough to buy the addons to experience what happens next... we can't really complain that they're doing good business by leading us on now can we? :)

I seriously doubt it. BF2 already has more players than all of HL2 multiplayer games combined. Considering Aftermath probably wont add anything really exciting to multiplayer, you can count on BF2 staying ahead.

BF2 has more players than all the CS's? Doubt it
