Also, about companies that support their products after launch, Blizzard has a pretty good track record at maintaing both updates and free multiplayer play hosted on their own servers no less. I think they just released another Warcraft III map last month? I would consider Blizzard to be the exeption and not the rule though
I work for Blizzard, so I will say thank you for those kind words. Yes, we have been offering free content for you guys for years. Shoot, we just released a StarCraft update yesterday, Warcraft 3:TFT map last week, and will be releasing the next WoW patch VERY soon (only a couple weeks after the last patch) - For free. Valva could learn a lot from us, this is true, and hopefully one day will have the reputation of Blizzard.

As for the new model... Who cares? I think it is not attractive in the eye at all, and I aggree with the previous poster, who said that he does not like how the new model has the gun at his side again. What will I do about it?? Easy, the same thing I did when they released the hideous CT model .... Simply copy the model file we have NOW, so after the new update downloads all I have to do is replace it - VIOLA! I have my old model back, how hard is that for you guys to do?

You guys just made all these replies and only 2 people addressed the main content of this release ... Assault. I cannot wait to see how they have rebalanced this map. It was always fun trying to prove yourself by going CT and trying to penetrate base and I really hope they did not take away us being able to shoot through the walls, but at the same time I hope they fixed the player shadow clipping through the walls bug. On this map, I could see this being a huge issue.

Finally, It impresses me that over the few years I have been coming to this site, these CS update threads always go the same route as far as your comments go ... Hostory truely does repeat itself.

I'm very impressed with Assault already. But it kind of looks like a terrorist is taking his morning stroll with his SG552 ATM in the screenie :P Can't wait to play Assault.

Since when is the waist at chest height?

The model's right shoulder is far higher than the left shoulder, don't know why that is, but I don't particularly care either. The model looks fairly good, and it's not the most important thing anyway.

Assault looks good, as it did... 29 days ago.

I hope they don't ust that arctic model.

They should make all 8 or 10 player models look comfortable in all climates.

I hate seeing a guy wearing a snowsuit walking around in an aztec region. Or a guy wearing sleeveless shit walking around in arctic climate. That just makes it so unrealistic.

At least make the terror guy wear long sleeve shirts or something.

I generally expect any truly good models to be made by the community, just like was the case with all previous versions of CS.
Well said, and to that point there's already a plugin for sourcemm that lets servers install custom skins and gives players a choice of 4 to choose between:

              http://www.lduke.com/plugins/modelchanger.php

The server uploads them to clients so all people see the same skins. I'm using the default set atm, but I'll be swapping them out for some fab ones from dead goat soon.

If they actually got off their arses (it doesn't take this long to make a new model, especially since 10 of them are already made.. all you have to do is re-model the cz ones) maybe they could do something like SOCOM 2? Y'know, where every map has a certain selection for the terrorists you can choose. That way it's a bit more realistic in the fact that they'd fit together. On Dust it could be all muslim extremists, and on Assault you get more of an urban selection. Of course, not everyone'd like this. Plus it'd involve having to make more models, something Valve apparently cannot do.

And it's really annoying when you guys defend Valve blindly like that. Sure they supply us with updates, but like someone said, you don't have to like them. There's NO excuse as far as these models go and I also believe there should be more maps. GOOD updates are too far apart, CS:S still feels like a beta. On the other hand I do respect it and I'm not going to stop playing over issues so apparently small, but c'mon, it's not that hard, Valve.

^ These people speak as fanboys. This site has an inordinate number of fanboys.

For the record, the new model is no better or worse than it ever was. The important point here is the fact that 1 year later, we get no choice at all regarding our player models. There is no fucking way it's THIS difficult to implement more than one model per team. Valve has proven it will always be behind the curve.

Tell me how many other modern online games have this limitation.

Oh my goodness...behind the curve? Why? Because they don't live up to your expectations? Let's see, last time I checked, Valve was working on Lost Coast, Aftermath, DOD: Source, etc. Those are big projects. Alot of you expect instant gratifiication. That VALVe should just drop everything so they can make models and content according to your standards while you just sit there on your arse and complain that its not being done now?

The model is fine, and most of you know that once the update is released you're going to end up using it anyway. Who knows? You might like it. Plus, they said they were going to add more player choices over the next few months. What's wrong with that? Don't tell me you guys are that impatient. Don't you have...uh...lives or anything else to do?

By the way, I can see it already: "..VAlvE fanboi! OMfG get your toungue outta valves asshole...!"

Was VALVe was "behind the curve" with HL2 and HL1 then? Keep complaining guys, its getting you real far...

A very large number. A lot of the games that allow different skins are really just the same one coloured differently.

Of course, UT2K4 has about 500 different models to choose from, but that would take Valve about 30 years.

It's not 1 year after it was released, but they should have the ability to choose models (and therefore more models), but at least they've now said that you will be able to soon...ish.

Give us choice. Also a full game would be nice.

                        Lost Coast - Bolloks...

                        DOD:Sauce - go play BF2

                        Aftermath - Gheyness!

Perhaps VaLvE should concentrate on one project at a time.

Also maybe they should try listening to the community. oh thats right they wont be able to hear us over the KA-CHING KA-CHING of the fuckin cash registers!!!!

Valve may be working on other projects too but they should/could have finished up Source first. Seriously, wtf? It's not that hard.

And it's constructive criticism, not so much complaining. It's not the fact that we're impatient waiting a few months for models, but it should have been done a long time ago. Leaves me shaking my head, that's all. I'm sure Valve listens to the comminity to some extent. Hell, chances are they do check this site and read our comments. CS has a huge fan base and they have to take baby steps.. I understand that. But give us the essentials, first.

Yeah, Valve should work on one project at a time, not 5 at a time.

no, they shouldn't listen to you because of the following reasons:

                              1. they have done an excellent job of maintaining both the updates for the already available games and the development of other games. just because there were few people with gripes about everything they did doesn't mean Valve had failed to do a great job.

                              2. most people crave for more content for their favorite games. i'd love to have DOD:S as an alternative to CSS (BF2 failed miserably to do this... at least for me... what a lasting fun that game was)

Well, I don't think they're doing a good job with the updates.

Half Life 2 has been out for months. It took up until now for a "new and improved" cheating system to be implemented into the game. And as far as I know there haven't been any hikes in cheating bans recently, so my guess is they just ported the original VAC to the Source engine and we will have to wait for them to update their inefficient cheat detection lists for VAC 2 to work.

CS:S has been out for even longer, and there are still only 2 models, one of which is the same from the beta, the other which is only slightly different. CS:S was full of bugs and lag problems, and a few still haven't even been fixed.

DOD:S is apparently just a conversion of DOD to Source, much like HL: Source. The only differences should be the obvious ones such as bump mapping or detail textures, higher quality textures, and possibly new models. This relatively small conversion should be out by now.

It shouldn't take them months to do this crap. They should just use the same player models that they have now, change the textures, add extra things like bandanas and glasses, and slightly scale the models. Thats how it was done in the original version of CS, so I don't see why it would take them so long to do it now.

And they're just wasting their time with this HDR technology. The amount of people who have 6800's and x800's are quite a minority to the rest of the people who play their games, so they should work on that as soon as all the other crap is out of the way.
