    VAC2 Public Beta

A couple of days ago, those on the HLDS mailing list were greeted with an e-mail from Valve's Alfred Reynolds stating that the VAC2 Beta has now been opened to the public. At present, the major issue lies within finding a solution to help those that experience connection problems when trying to connect to VAC2 enabled servers.
As most of you know, VAC2 has been in beta for a few weeks. We're nearing release, but we need lots of servers to run the beta right now in order to complete our testing.

In order to turn it on, simply restart your server and add " -vacbeta"

    to your the command line.
For server admins unsure of any extra steps they should take for the Beta, there is a handy FAQ guide that will explain some of the details. It's good to see things are on the up and up for VAC2's imminent release!

Does this only work in Source or HL1 based games too?

If everything went as planned, then they added support for those yesterday night.

              Finally! =)

              added -vacbeta to my server

A year after release we finally get protection from cheaters.

Oh, after reading the FAQ on the Steam Forums, I would like to point this out to xlokix, who responded to me in the last "Small Steam Update" news post saying that Valve would tell us before they released VAC2 ... I quote this from the FAQ.

"Valve have stated that they will not be giving any further "heads up" on the status of the VAC2. In beta or otherwise."

They ment the progress up to the release of VAC, not when it's going to be released.

edit: And by the way, the whole root of this argument is that I said Valve wasn't logging for VAC2, which they aren't.

So, is VAC2 doing anything yet, or are they just testing other things?

Let's hope it goes final soon and they start banning people for real. I can't really enjoy CS:S to the fullest right now knowing there might be cheaters around. Yes, I am aware there will always be some cheaters, but the less the merrier.

I do enjoy some of the fun/aim-maps though. :)

I was not arguing, just a friendly discussion with another nationalist =) We will see what happens then. BTW - I work for Blizzard, what Realm do you play in and what is your character? I will come in and bug you =)

this is great news and ill definitely add that command line to our server if it will help speed up the process but is vac detecting cheats now or is this just what it says it is, a "public beta"? meaning, still no detection yet. based on what every body has said id assume its not detecting anything quite yet but i wanted to make sure.

yes im the king of asking stupid questions...
