Because it's better? Have you see how many converted HL1DM maps there have been for HL2DM already from custom map makers? Not to mention the complete change in weapons, especially no grav gun.

Besides Vampire: Bloodlines (which, probably due to the late Troika studios inexperience with 3D, looked sub par), has anyone licensed the Source engine for anything?appended @ [time="1118654870"]Zips wrote..
True. Although, it has more to do with scale than anything. An HL2 level the size of the Gulf of Oman map with that many players would simply not work. I think we have about two years or so before we see HL2 graphics doable in large environment games. (Needs about 512-1GB on onboard video card memory)
Even though BF2 is more recent than the Source engine, Source still looks a whole lot better than the BF2 engine.Comment

EA seemingly doesn't know how to do large scale environments on newer engines efficently either. There's been a ton of problems with the game stuttering that I've read. I personally also experience a ton of freeze-ups and stuttering for the first 2 minutes at the start of a new round for whatever reason. I don't know if it's the content being cached into memory or what, but on every new map it does it (even though it's the same map).

Still others can't even get the game running be it from the stupidly high system (vid card) requirements, a problem with the nVidia beta drivers that are basically neeeded to run it on an nVidia card (Personally had a blue screen of death for the first time in nearly two years just from exiting Guild Wars with the error citing a problem with said drivers), hardlocks when trying to refresh the the server browser (happened to others and myself, personally a total of 3 times and 3 forced reboots) or other random system crashes or black screens of nothing (not personally experienced).
When it works, it's a fun game I'll give it that. Other than that, I'll still be playing Source games more frequently (and Guild Wars even more frequently than that).Comment
