    Weekly Steam Announcement

As reported on Half-Life Fallout, a new announcement has been delivered on Steam. This update covers Valve's E3 experiences, and gives us a new look at The Lost Coast map that should be released soon for Half-Life 2 owners.
We are pretty caught up with E3 (the Electronic Entertainment Expo) again this year. Half-Life 2 Xbox is playable on the show floor, and lots of people are trying their hand at the Gravity Gun. We can't wait to get the game into the hands of Xbox owners.

Our HDR (High Dynamic Range lighting) demonstration of HL2's Lost Coast is also on display. This soon-to-be-released area of Half-Life 2 introduces a new character, whom we first mentioned (in the form of a concept sketch) here.

Above, left: The lovely and talented Robin Walker, Valve game designer and developer, showing off The Lost Coast at E3.

Above, right: The Lost Coast fisherman as he exists today.

I never thought I'd get off to a fisherman.

do you guys think a 9800 pro will run the HDR? I haven't paid much attention to the HL2 scene lately

He must drink his 2L a day to stop the thirst deamons creeping up.

None of the current ATi cards can run HDR, only the 6800's. You can play this in low quality, with a fake hdr-bloom effect.

I thought all Series 6 cards have shader model 3? So shouldn't all Series 6 cards beable to run HDR?

yes i believe all of the geforce 6 series supports HDR. I know my 6600 has shader 3.0 ...which means it supports hdr. At least that is my half-informed statement.

Yep, im so glad i bought my 6800GT when i did. ATI made a big mistake not even puttin Pixel shader 3 on their X800XL. Its like every ATI is outdated as soon as you buy them!

MY 6600GT runs Far Cry's HDR beautifully, can't wait to see what VALVe has cooked up

                              I'm hungry
