Take a flashlight in real life and run it over some grass at night.
Check out that bump-mapping, holy shit.

...ala wacking day?xlokix wrote..
Despite your best efforts to get into an eFight, xlokix, it's not gonna happen. :) Nice try though.
Back to the subject at hand, though. I don't think it's gonna be an issue for all that many people, really. Right now, the Steam hardware survey claims just over 62,500 people even own a GeForce 6 series GPU, out of over 1.1 million responses. So you're looking at just over 5% of us that will be affected currently. Sure, there'll be more with time, but it'll be a while before PS3.0 support is very widespread.
Anybody know when ATi is expected to have a PS3.0-compliant part on store shelves?Comment

I'd take the crowbar and a gravity gun. I can picture it now, some moron in their rice-burner almost hits me on the highway, I could just hop out, pick their car up and shoot it right at a wall.
Just give me a crowbar and I'm ready to mess up some headcrabs in my own hometown.
I need a gravity gun.Comment

Doom 3 was impressive in its own way, but honestly, HL2 provides a much better-looking environment most of the time. This isn't being fanboyish, that's simply stating things as they are. Doom 3 is innovative in taking that approach, but the problem is simply that there isn't enough rendering power in even the most modern computers to expand that style of lighting to very high poly scenes where you'd need dozens or even hundreds of light sources.
a true advance would be doom 3's unified lighting system on a much grander scale within the hl2 engine.
D3 worked by keeping the scenes limited in poly count, and keeping it down to a few lights at any given time. The system requirements to run the game at a good resolution are still pretty high, and the textures and modeling are unimpressive. The lighting is immersive and pulls off the "scary" effect they were going for quite well, but I'd argue that as much as we want it, we're still not ready for that kind of lighting to span all game genres and environments.peagle wrote..
I'll be looking forward to specs on that sucker. I found some rumors, but I'd rather see some hard 3DMark scores. 3DMark05 rips my computer up in terms of frame-rate, but it's dang beautiful... I'd love to see it on a next-gen card. :)
