I copy-and-pasted my response from here over to Amped News. I didn't realize I couldn't use quote tags, so it looks like one giant post with his and my words mixed together, and they don't have an edit feature, so.. whatever.

lol yea, I didn't even read half of it, but I get the point. Source sux. I agree. so sick of my movement being impeded by stupid barrels bouncing me around. What good are they if you can't use them for some sort of halfassed cover? Soon as I get too close I get pushed around. And it also seems like you get stuck on other players worse too. Flashbangs are ridiculous. Enemies seem to pop up on you out of the blue. etc. etc.

I think you league guys need to understand that the majority of these millions of people who play CS don't give a rip about competitive play. They just want to have a good time. And the overwhelming majority does not care about "e-sports". Valve is a business and they trying to cater to that majority group.

As you can see from my comments though, its obvious that I am a pub only player. I don't even care about competitive play and I am still disappointed. I'll stop rambling now..

I have now had cs source for roughly 2 weeks, and quiet frankly i am impressed with the greater intension to detail on the maps. i read a comment regarding lagging on a lower end machine. Well i do believe that my machine is at the lower end but i have had no problems regarding lag. my PC spec is athlonxp +1700, thats 1.47ghz 768mb ddr ram at only 266mhz speed. and my graphics card is only geforce4 mmx440.

had no gaming problems, except however in another game, Medal of honor pacific assault. You need a high end graphics card to play that. can't see that game doing well.

oh well never mind. sorry i went of the subject their for a minute.

yes i think that cs source a fantastic game to play, it has its downfalls regarding only one skin for ct and t's. but i'll get over it. got to move on. you never know they may add it in the future.

That probably has alot to do with the lowered volume of footsteps. I think Valve did this with the intention of making it harder for more skilled players to be able to listen in on footsteps and immediately tell where the player was. I wish we could get a Q and A with Cliffe about competitive play, because sometimes it seems like they do things just to fuck us over.

Right, I completely understand that. However, I think e-sports is one of the biggest factors as to why this game is still alive. Plus, I don't see why Valve wouldn't atleast try to appease the competitive players with serverside variables that cater to us. I think we deserve acknowledgement at the very least.

I didn't bother reading the whole article but as far as the snippet goes, every newssite etc. said the shield would bring new tactical advantages too when it was introduced into the game..

We'll see how CS:S works out as a competitive game when CPL etc starts using it this coming summer.. I hope it will work, because I'm a bit tired of the old stuff..

I guess so.... aiming is impossible in css. Or is it just me...
I posted after CS:S first came out that hitting a moving target was akin to flipping a coin, let alone hitting where you were aiming. A couple months later, I believe that the problems have just about been solved. I don't know if that's because I acclimated or the netcode improved, or what. But I now feel in control of my shots for the most part, and have the same sense of "aiming for the head" that I did in 1.6, although with a bit less accuracy. It's not headshots at will like it used to be, but it's a definite improvement from CS:S after it first came out.

Maybe it's just me, but I can't think of a map (used in pro-play, ported over to CSS, such as dust2 or cbble) that makes effective use of the physical objects.
I haven't been paying attention, but is de_prodigy in competitive play? Knocking those barrels in the Hallway 'o Awpage down so that they roll around and clog up the hallway is very effective. I was trying to come from T spawn once, in an awful hurry to get to a bomb that had just been planted, and ran into a sea of rolling barrels there. I was about ready to pull my hair out what with the confusion and utter hoplessness of trying to wade through teammates and barrels and barrels being moved by teammates. Anyway, it was a nightmare.

I was speaking about not having seen lights move around in any of the CSS maps. I had said that I hadn't played prodigy on CSS yet. Even if I had, prodigy isn't a competitive map, and thus has no relevance to the discussion. I even GO ON to say that even if swinging lights WERE incorperated into competitive maps, no competitive player would be distracted by such a thing after playing the map once or twice.

Way to force everyone to realize how much of an idiot you are.

Not in CAL atleast. It's long since been removed, thankfully.

I don't know. I see both sides and agree with some of both points and also disagree with some of both points. Entro went into extreme (and long - heh) detail on some of what I also disagree with so I just want to comment on a couple of his points.

1.6 (and CZ, for that matter) was much easier to kill people in to me. When I first started playing Source I found myself having a rough time trying to equal my kill ratio I enjoyed with 1.6 and CZ. About 3 weeks ago, realizing Source IS the future, I went exclusively with Source. Now, I've figured out the small nuances with shooting in it as well as the small differences in throwing nades that easily result in bouncing them back at you from bad tosses. It really just takes time. It can all be mastered. Now I'm happily back at the top of the servers. I admit a lot of frustration was involved though.

I think a little more improvement is needed on some of the objects in the game. It stinks still being repelled by some of the items in there.

They have fixed it some since the start but needs more tweaking. That said, there are maps where you can use stuff to your advantage. Someone mentioned barrels in Prodigy. I've also used barrels in other maps. The most interesting use I've witnessed is closing the CT tunnel entrance on cs_Militia with a heavy iron grate. (Not "official" yet but looks damn authentic and plays like it). That completely halts the terrorists from flanking. There are other non-official maps using Source objects effectively so the mod community is making good use of the technology so it will all improve as time goes on across the board. Let's see what happens when Valve (and others) releases brand new maps instead of rehashes of previous maps before we rush to judge.

I mean...I did the competitive play trip for 3 years and finally just got tired of it. Nothing against those who have fun with it but it just got too "serious" for me. Even winning a important match wasn't fun to me anymore and I missed the fun of the game. The fun came back when I stopped taking it so seriously. E-Sports may or may not be a reason for CS success. Don't know. I know there are lots of other games available for league play yet CS still stays the king.

I think instead the main reason CS is huge and stays huge is that Valve keeps trying to improve it and doesn't rest on their laurels. If we were still all playing 1.3 and only had 8 maps I'd have dumped it long ago.
