Steam, Source Engine, and HLDS Updates

According to the latest Steampowered news, there has been an update released tonight for the Steam client, the Source engine, and the Half-Life Dedicated Server.
      Steam

    • Pressing the cancel button while Steam is loading will bring up the offline dialog

    • Fixed use of quoted parameters in "-applaunch" command lines

      Source Engine

    • Fixed 100% CPU use on startup

    • Fixed exception info spam in debugger output window for SDK users

      Half-Life Dedicated Server

    • Enabled support for new query protocol (fixes HLTV server not appearing in the server browser)
As usual, restart Steam in order to grab this latest update.

Update: A second, small update was released a little later tonight.

This update fixed command line parameters being ignored when using desktop shortcuts for some games.

You're right it's been way too long. They need to release new playermodels, maps, features, SOMETHING!

They said they were working on materials to be released during December. They never said December was the month they would "for sure" be out, no questions asked. So I suggest you, and everyone else who is thinking about bringing up a complaint about no new models or maps in this update to just stop.

I stated a fact Zips - I am still waiting on the December update. I didn't complain about anything, I was merely wondering where it was and why we have have not had status updates from Valve in a good long time regarding the proposed update. And if Valve do intend to go about sorting minor bugs first then maybe they should fix the obvious ones like the $1600 start money.

Don't get me wrong friend - Valve do a great job, it'd just be nice for them to tell us what is going with stuff now and again.

But there's a lot they probably have going on. What good is it if they give out a list of everything they know about and are working on? They wouldn't give out release dates for any of the fixes because those can change quickly.

Basically everything that you've seen on the net or have experienced in game, is probably being worked on or noted in some capacity. Especially if it's widespread beyond one person having it.

EDIT: Didn't mean to say your comment was a complaint. It's just so common anymore to see people whining because they didn't get a new model or map that was never with a solid release date.

They might just be fixing the easier bugs first, so that they have less to worry about.

December....2005. When they said HL2 would be released in the fall, they didn't mean 2003. Therefore history has repeated itself. (and will)

Tbh though even if VALVe just released a list like this:

                            Bug / Status

                            Startmoney / Notified - fixing

                            Scout Damage / Notified

Prodigy Map Bugs / Notified - on hold

                            Patch / Status

VAC - Upcoming / High priority

                            de_inferno - Upcoming / Low Priority

Original Map - Upcoming / Low Priority

Skins - Upcoming / Low priority

                            etc.

All they really need to do is at least acknowledge the bugs/patches the community is screaming about, whether or not they are actively fixing them right now, and they would shut the mouths of millions of whining bitches. Hell the steam forum would be a ghost town.

They don't need to give any dates, just let the community know they are fixing the bugs, and working on the stuff we all want. Even if they are taking a week long vacation in Aruba, building their HL3 pinata, or focusing their massive coding laser on making friends work, just to know that they are aware and working on these things would assure the community.

Instead you get nothing but vague forum posts from cliffe, rumors and endless speculation. Don't take this as an insult against cliffe or VALVe, I'm still whiling away hours on cs-s, I just wish that they would take the tiniest PR step and soothe the communities fears with all but a quick acknowledgement of cs-s's outstanding issues.
