Theres no excuse "oh i didnt like it i am so cool i downloaded from teh innterrnet!!111". I downloaded beta free off the internet, theres no sense in buying CZ, but once i had the option, i bought HL2, CSS, DoDS, AND CZ. Considering you dont have the good will to buy a game you have been enjoying for months, id hate to think what youre family is getting from you this christmas.
Actually, if HL2 were released on time, I probably would have liked it more. After all the hype and nonsense, I didn't really find myself having fun playing the game.
Lots of people didn't think it would be as good as the hype. I thought it would be awesome, and I was extremely let down. But then I realized that I didn't spend any money to play it, so I was no worse off.
Three of my friends said it was great, all the reviews said it was an amazing game. I enjoyed the Rise of Nations demo more than HL2.
And people who do it through Steam without being total idiots are also not affected.

Why am I glad they got banned? Here are a couple of reasons.
Why?
1. Valve, which is a company where real people work for a living, has spent untold hours designing, creating, and distributing a game. I'd like to think that they will get paid for all their hard work. This is what they do for a living, after all.
2. Every pirated copy means that Valve gets less money. In the end, all this does is hurt their next product. If no one pays for games, newer and better games simply can't be made. I paid for HL2 because I want to support Valve not only for the job they've done so far with HL2, but for the products they will release in the future.
entRo, I think your rationale is off. If you're going to play it, regardless of whether or not you like it in the end or think it was worth your money, you should have to pay. If price is making you unsure of whether or not you want to buy the game, then don't pay for it and don't play it. I've bought my share of crap games, but it's never driven me to warez.
You can't warez a game and then justify it by saying you didn't like it. Like I said, something doesn't come from nothing, and if everyone thinks the way you do, the videogame industry would be dead.Comment

don't jump to conclusions, if you went to log on and it said you were banned and you told people here would you want them to call you a moron and tell you that you put in an illegal key?
You obviously put in the illegal key they were checking for. You sir, are the moron.
my computer is down and i havn't checked to see if my account still works, and if it doesn't work. expect me to complain to valve.
on a second note, 30,000 people guessed and got working keys? wow lol you have no idea how many times i've tried and failed. and don't say you've never tried :pComment

First of all before I reply to you guys, I didn't warez the game. There are other ways of getting the game for free (no, I didn't steal it from a store).wolf8218 wrote..
I didn't like CSS, or HL2DM much. They're hardly games I should be paying for anyway. They're completely unfinished. If the games are improved, and I would want to play them, then I'll pay for it.
Youre just saying you didnt like it so you can justify warezing it. Even if you dont like the SP part, youre still getting CSS for free, and you are getting HL2DM.Theres no excuse "oh i didnt like it i am so cool i downloaded from teh innterrnet!!111".
First, that didn't make sense. The "oh I didnt like it.." nonsense isn't an excuse in the first place. Second, I don't think I'm cool because I didn't pay for a game I didn't like. I think I saved myself $60.I downloaded beta free off the internet, theres no sense in buying CZ, but once i had the option, i bought HL2, CSS, DoDS, AND CZ.
So.. first you say there is no sense in buying CZ, but then you go on to say you did buy it once you were able to just to burn money? And you're saying I'm illogical?Considering you dont have the good will to buy a game you have been enjoying for months, id hate to think what youre family is getting from you this christmas.
I bought the original Half-Life and the only Valve game I have been enjoying for the last few months is Counter-Strike. I've already paid for it. If you're saying I should buy HL2 because I've been enjoying it, you're wrong. I havn't touched it since I beat it.
As far as Christmas goes, I havn't really asked for anything.kerosine99 wrote..
Right, I respect Valve as a company but I wouldn't have purchased HL2 anyway. I would have played it at a friend's house first, and decided that I didn't want to buy it. The only part of the game I enjoyed was the very beginning, where the game was very immersing. After that, I was totally let down.

Right, if I would have enjoyed the game, I would have paid for it. However, I didn't and I wouldn't have purchased it anyway, so how can Valve lose any money from me having the game without buying it?
I would have spent $0 on HL2, and me having the game costs Valve $0, so either I'm just extremely horrible at math (I'm not that bad), or Valve simply isn't losing any money (much more likely).entRo, I think your rationale is off. If you're going to play it, regardless of whether or not you like it in the end or think it was worth your money, you should have to pay.
If I enjoyed the game and wanted to play it again, I would have purchased it. I've already explained this.If price is making you unsure of whether or not you want to buy the game, then don't pay for it and don't play it. I've bought my share of crap games, but it's never driven me to warez.
I figured I would try it out since my friend had been talking it up so much. I just found it boring. I could have shelled out $50 for it at any time, but I never had the intention of buying it. Again, back to my math problem above. You can't warez a game and then justify it by saying you didn't like it. Like I said, something doesn't come from nothing, and if everyone thinks the way you do, the videogame industry would be dead.
So very far from the truth..
I don't support those who say "well I dont want to spend $x for a game, so I'll just pirate it". But I never had the intention of buying it in the first place, and I'll gladly uninstall it. Keep in mind, I didn't warez it. ;]Comment

He's jumping to conclusions and calling Valve morons. Why? Because they screwed up? Doubtful. It's not that hard to check keys to see who tried using a key with the FAY98 ending to them. So my statement seems fairly justified there.

Guessed? They got the keys off the Internet. The same keys in fact. Oh, I never tried for a key to a game that uses a central auth server

Sorry if I jumped down your throat entRo, I see where you're coming from now. I don't know how you got ahold of the game, but I'm assuming you could have just as easily borrowed your friend's copy and discovered the game wasn't something you wanted to buy. The end result would have been the same. I guess I just assumed you had warez'd it. And that set me off on my anti-warez rant.
It's the people who enjoy the game and play online without shelling out money who irk me. I just find it shame that people who enjoy Valve's games refuse to support Valve.Comment

entro, if you dont like it, why dont you delete it off your hard drive? i mean, you didnt pay for it anyways didnt you? i dont know, but id hardly call THAT illogical. but you still, insist on playing games you "dont like". fine, you may not be PLAYING it, but sure you have them there, and you can any time you want. but since you are never going to play it whats the point? what is the magic curse preventing you from pressing the delete key?
kerosine, you assumed correctly he did warez the game, i dont know why you think he didnt.Comment

I havn't deleted it because I have plenty of space on my hard drive, and I hadn't ever thought "hey, maybe I'll delete HL2" until earlier. I didn't steal the game, and I didn't warez it. I'll keep it on there in case for some reason in the future I decide to play it.

I don't see who you are to tell me what to do. You don't know how I got HL2, and your anger towards me isn't going to change my mind about what I've done in any way.kerosine, you assumed correctly he did warez the game, i dont know why you think he didnt.
He thinks I didn't, because in my previous post, I said that I didn't warez it you stupid fucking asshole know-it-all son of a bitch moron.
