You should, though, because it would be a waste of money if you didn't. I mean, it would be like buying CS Retail and not trying out Natural Selection or Sven Coop.

          what awards has this won?
It has won the 'Free Downloadable Demo of the Century Award'. Valve even bought it a 104% rank in PC Games demo reviews. But considering it's only 2004, it's not expected to hang on to the title.

          You dumbasses.

whatever happened to releasing a demo PRIOR to the game's release to drum up support? nvm, that'd make too much sense. ggkthxbye.
exacly, valve and steam are both messed up companys they never realese in time and .... they are just gay! they promise updates? keep dreaming.

Why release a demo prior to actual game release?

Now anymore, releasing a possible (read: probable) ultra-buggy demo prior to game release = less sales. Games are too complicated to really have a great working demo prior to release. I'd rather have the companies work to make a better game than take the time out to edit a demo and make sure it works well enough to not negatively impact sales.

Plus, demos are mostly to further convince the people who don't have the game to buy it. Especially with a game like Half-Life 2. Do you honestly think HL2 could have profited from a pre-release demo?...

                *sigh* think, please.

I'm sure if they released the demo first, I wouldn't have bought HL2. Sorry. I know a lot of people like the game a lot, and In my opinion it was OK, but I'm more of a Doom 3 guy.
Yeah, I wouldn't have bought it either. I was pretty dissapointed with HL2 overrall.

Good thing I didn't pay for it.

downloading a game off the internet is negligible in my book. but downloading a game off the internet and then bragging about it to people who DID buy it is wrong. ass.

lol honestly, think before you speak. I was refering to the comment in the post that said Hl2 had won awards. Now lets try again, or you wont get a gold sticker on your chart!

I didn't pirate HL2 in the sense that I did get it from Steam. However, I didn't use my account to play it. I don't see why what I said is offensive. You could have done the same thing and saved yourself $50.
