I'll try waiting it out. I really just want to play it properly again. I paid for the game because I wanted to support Valve. Theftery or not I now own the game and I should be able to play it.

The reason I emphasis the whole "theftery or no" is because I'm one of those 1984-reading warez d00ds myself except I made a special case for VALVe because I would sex half-life 2 had it legs and long hair.

Oh thanks about the box. G-man is a personal hero of mine. And I never gave up! I'm just a realist. I e-mailed Steam wayyy before I thought it prudent to whine about my problems to random internet plebs. I just thought that even if they did get my e-mail (as I assumed I was not the only person going to e-mail them and bitch) that they wouldn't give me my account back because they're munny grubbing "omg you broke the treatsie" bitches. I never gave up. I just figured that there was no way in hell that Steam would be nice to me since we don't get along.

I'm going to go cry now, maybe talk to my parents... pray a little bit. Cry some more and go rub vasoilene on my anus...

            Heres what i think,

If you pirated hl2 (i bought mine) you hl2 should be taken away from you yes thats common sence. now for valve to ban users that pirated and take ALL games away ect ect even tho you have to be stupid to use your main account thusly this isent right i say, a game

company shouldnt be able to punish you for doing something wrong, yes they should take back HL2 that you pirated, but they arent police ect ect they shouldnt be able to be like "Hey guess what all those games you paid good money for...that were out for years... YOU CANT PLAY ANYMORE HAHA! that will teach you a lesson"

Thats my 2 cents i am in no way saying pirateing is ok nor saying valve banning is wrong, i just dont like the idea of a game company punishing users when they could just take the ability to play a un-paid for game.

This reminds me A LOT of the time when Gabe took matters into his own hands by luring the HL2 source code leaker with a "Valve Job Opportunity" and even offered to fly him over... with the FBI waiting at the airport. That was pretty cool, but I still think it should have been left for the proper authorities to deal with.

This warez sting sounds much like Valve's vindicative style of justice.

Like i said i dont think valve has the right to punish you tho im sure alot of you disagree and thats fine evryone is welcome to a opnion

1: Valve banning every game you own for warez or whatever you call it hl2 = Punishment

2: Valve takeing away your ability to play your hacked HL2 till you pay for it = fair

some of you will argue that its in the agreement im not saying its not im just saying i dont see it as moral.

Too bad everyone spends 1/8th a second reading the EULA.

VALVE has every legal and moral right to do this.

If you stole a camera from best buy, does that mean you can go back into bestbuy. Just not the camera section? Just stfu piraters.

Oh let me correct that, stupid piraters.

keke MrZero I feel your pain...when I started cs some 5 or so years ago I was 20 and back then I was young in the community...now I'm a granddaddy to the new generation of low IQ, low age, no respect gits...they assume you cheat just because you're good and if they can't handle it they run off and download some cheats to beat you with...which just makes me ban them :)

Back on topic...I see Valve didn't release the key and the number of legit hl2 purchasers was small, but I have to agree with Kobra that stopping you playing hl2 is fine, but they should just disable that portion of your steam account rather than disable the whole thing, considering something I bought years ago could be rendered useless because of a future indiscretion. Mind you, how many fake accounts who have bought hl2 bought hl1?

The problem is that even old games have been tied up with steam, making the games useless should steam go under...just think in 5 years time you might wanna play a game of hl2 on your new fangled hardware and steam is dead = you have a nice retail box and nothing else.

I don't get it... this shouldn't be very hard for people to understand

                        Let me sort this out:

                        Go buy HL2

                        Create an account with steam

                        Install, then Register/Unlock over steam

                        Play the game

Don't use cracks, or install anything that didn't come directly from Valve

It really isn't that difficult to do or understand. Honestly, the majority of people's problems with disabled accounts result from stupidity, carelessness, immaturity, and impatience.

All i had to was sit back and wait for the game to be released, buy it, and do what i typed above ^^ everything works fine, and i haven't had a single problem

More like... if you steal a camera from Best Buy, do they have the right to confiscate everything you've ever bought from them in the past? No.

I read the EULA (skimmed it really, picking out the main points in all the legalese), I just don't remember it. (For me, this means the Steam EULA when CS made the switch to 1.6/Steam, since I don't have HL2.)

I can't remember any clause about "if you hack HL2 we'll ban you from all Steam" or whatever.

Anyway, I'm not getting the situation clearly, I suppose. The 'hack' was a cd key basically...supposedly anyone who installed this CD key would be able to run the game. ....What happened to CD checks? Wasn't there an online CD key check? What happened to 'that cd key has been registered'? I mean, isn't the whole idea of Steam/online for a single player game meant to prevent exactly this?

So let's say for some reason this cd key allowed more than one person to register it...and if that was true, the fault's really on Valve for the flaw in the code that allows more than one account to be tagged to the same CD key (or something). So they fix that. So why should they ban users?

I don't get what the hack involved or why people who bought HL2 would suffer from it. The update says 'very few' fall into this category, but I don't get why any would at all.

No its more like you buy stuff from best buy then steal something and they go to your house and take all of your stuff you bought in order to teach you a lesson
