If you put the pants on and goes away, they have every right to arrest you.

But if you put it on, walk a few step to see if it fits, and get back to pay it, you have every right to feel riped off, if the shop takes your money, and a few days later come to your house, take the pants you bought, and every other pants you bought in the same store.



Enough with this sick example, let me say what I think would have been fair :



- you use the key and buy nothing : stealer -> disable account

- you fail to use the key properly THEN buy the game : wannabe stealer -> disable account

- you use properly the key THEN buy the game : looking for a demo of the game to see how it runs on your computer -> disable temporarily to punish bad behavior

- you buy the game THEN try the key : curious and idiot user -> disable temporarily



With my duron 600 I have absolutly no chance to have HL2 in a legal or illegal maner, just so you understand I'm just trying to express a balanced point of view.



Hackers of the game are not that pissed off, and those who are deserved it anyway, but people who bought HL2 and didn't used the key to try to steal the game (those who used it properly but bought the game after) have every right to complain.

So when you flame someone complaining for getting banned, think before if he stole the game, try to stole it, or just tested it before buying it.

I support Valve for banning the hackers, but they will be lower in my mind if they don't reactivate accounts of those who stole it and tryed it, then bought it, mending their way.



Valve being unforgiver, after being forgiven their 1 year delay, is quite a slap in the face of the community.

I havn't played any cracked version of VALVe games, but I would like to say that the people who actually put it on their legit accounts aren't quite to smart. If you were the person who had a cracked version of a game, I am sure you wouldn't want to use it on Steam. I remember noticing a CS Source crack that was working since the real version came out. The versions that don't involve steam are hard to take down. It's obvious enough that if only about 10 fake CD-Keys are out there for HL2 and you use it on Steam, you will most likely get caught. Well congrads to VALVe. These people deserve to get caught annd for the people who lost a $60 CD-Key, sucks to be you.



About 2 people from emporio's team got caught. It's gonna be a hard life for them when they spend a year in Jail with a $3000 fine for hacking a game that was only $60.

Sorry I have not the time to read 110 comments but I'd like to throw in my $0.02...



First of all I'd like to say that I love and always have loved Valve. I respected them as a company because they seemed to know how to do it right. No extra fluff. Hardly anyone saw Half-Life 1 coming. They keep their mouths shut and make superior games.



Here I sit, almost to tears, for I have been foresaken...



I have, on my desk, a very cool looking G-Man Half-Life 2 box that was opened by me and has been held by others only in my presence under my watchful eye. I have been waiting for Half-Life 2 since I beat Half-Life 1 shortly after it came out. When I finally got Half-Life 2 I was so excited I beat 90% of it in one night and then woke up the next morning and finished it off before breakfast. I probably would have died from joy had I not been forced to use Steam to play Half-Life 2. Hey, last time I checked my friends list on Steam.... hey wait, I can't check my friends list on Steam because it works never... But I digress...



As to the tears, they are from my steam account being murdered by some stupid money-grubbing fat fingered meow-kitty whore up in some evil tower laughing because apparently, my bought copy of Half-Life 2 was illegal and now I should put my dick in a pond full of razor toothed demon fish with lazers for eyes. My brother was playing last night and all the sudden he could not join any more CS:S servers and it logged me out.



THOSE RED-BASKET HOLE JUMPERS MURDERED MY STEAM ACCOUNT FOR NO REASON. SORRY WALLET, MR. STEAM JUST BURNED 50 ODD BUCKS FOR NO REASON.



It's entirely possible some snot rag kid stole my Steam ID, everyone knows it and maybe this snot rag kid used it for his illegal haxed version of HL2 but I bought it and now I can't use it. Even if someone had my username and password, which is admitidly stupid, they should not be able to incur this much damage. Now all I have to do is steal someone I don't like's account and I can cost them 50 or 60 bucks. Hurray. This is exactly how the internet should work.



If I don't get my account back I'm never going to buy another game made by Valve or that uses the Source engine.
