This is horrible, you have to play with the CD in all the time even after verification and tying it to your Steam account -- VALVe stop punishing your customer base because they wanted a damn box! That sickens me.

Somehow i think Vu told them to do this.....go get the **** if it bothers you so much.....by the way its not punishment its annoying, but how many games do you know that let you play without the cd in, verification is besides the point.

I get this really badly.... I suddenly walk away from the computer after 20 or 30 minutes feeling really sick and have to lie down
Maybe video games aren't for you. :P

No, seriously though, just out of curiousity... what refresh rate is your monitor running at while playing the game. A lot of the time under WinXP you'll be playing at 60hz if you don't tweak things in the registry, and I don't know about you, but 60hz refresh rates give me a headache like no tomorrow.

If your monitor has on-screen info, check it out, not that it's the only thing that's probably causing it, but it couldn't hurt to know...

I've only had it happen while playing Doom64. I promptly threw up on the carpet. :[

if you have motion sickness its not because of a video game. thats due to car motion, thus the term car sickness. its also known as vertigo and can make u dizzy and puke-ish feeling.

but if you get headaches while playing video games its because your monitor. try getting a monitor with 100+ hertz refresh rates, and have the resolution at least set at 1024x768 or higher. this fixes eye strain and headaches.

i have played on the computer 3 days straight with no sleep and i never get head aches. :P (known fact its the monitor that causes head aches.)

I stated that I was going to continue calling it that even though I know that isn't what it really is... The thing is... I be on the computer doing other things for plenty of time and not get sick.. Only with FPS's and i do get the dizzy/puke feeling too but they are combined with a headache.

Yeah, I know how you feel. I get that wihile playing Doom 3, those old pixel games like Duke Nukem 3D and Golden Eye for N64.

Ok I'm really p**sed! I deleted the entire HL2 cache cause I suspected some corrupted files. D/L all of the HL2 files again. Deleted my Omega ATI drivers. Re-installed ATI drivers. Deleted clientregbob file thingy. Updated STEAM. After 24hours of trying to get it to run. Guess what? It still doesnt run. Freezes at the VALVE splash screen. Task manager shows 99% of CPU cycles being used by HL2.exe. WTF!

                            My Rant.

You need a connection only once to authenticate the game. After that, you can run it in offline mode. See link for how to do this
thanks mate...guess it's safe to go get a copy then...let's hope Valve makes a ***** patch to hl2 for us too :) I for one would be concerned that all this authentication, etc. means that to play the game in the future after a format, etc. you'd need to redownload all the updates again first...assuming steam is still around in say 5 years.

True for me the whole online verification system is a bunck of crap, do they really beleive it is goin to stop piracy of there software?

i dont think so, look at windows xp, you need to activate it online, but still there are copy's of it out there that have bypassed this crap.

My point is the more challenging they think the protection software is the less protected it really is.
