Half-Life 2 Worldwide Release Time

For those of you who are wondering when exactly Half-Life 2 will unlock, wonder no more. A forum posting at Steampowered.com breaks down the times for the worldwide release of Half-Life 2.

The word is that not only will HL2 be released on the same date across the world, but also the same time. Vivendi are forcing retailers to only start selling HL2 at midnight Seattle time (GMT-8), with taking into account time zone differences. The reason being is that Vivendi are planning to release HL2 across the worldwide simultaneously, for both retail and steam.

Included in the forum posting is a link to a time zone converter. This little tool will help you figure out exactly how long you will have to be up waiting for your release.

Ok... So now we'll know when the internet's bandwidth will drain to nothing and Steam's content servers will explode. I mean, both retail and Steam-purchased versions will require authentication. I hope to see a news flash on television saying the internet has temporarily stopped working since every ISP in the world is experiencing technical difficulties.



(It's November 16th 12:00 AM, but it's focussed on VALVe's timezone which is -8 GMT. So all timezones are pointed towards that day and time. So check the forum post and see when you can get your game unlocked. Unless you're unaware of what timezone you're in.)

On the bright side, midnight PST is a pretty low-bandwidth time of day in my experience, as most of my Fileplaneting and CS playing is around that time or a little later.



Really, though, I don't think I'll ever understand the "I must play this game the instant it comes out!" types... are you all ADHD kiddies, or just never learned to develop any patience? Odd... :)
