are you retarded? i know that. but it stands to reason that THE PEOPLE VALVE HAVE one, since they're making maps for CS:S. what the fuck did you think they were using? they have a hammer editor, but they're not releasing it until the release the SDK. if you want more proof, CS:S maps have been made using the Hammer editor from the hl2 leak, which (OMG!) had support for porting HL1 maps. when i said port BSP i meant the valve team do it.Comment

GODDAMNIT ARE YOU ALL BLIND?
read my post. i said port the bsp as a way of starting the map, that way they already know the bsp is solid. from there they update decorative geometry and textures. then the beta process will start quicker and end quicker. common fucking sense. we Unreal people do this all the time. and don't say you can't cause it's a different engine. the concept is the same.Comment

I understand your argument as to its possibilty, so what makes you think they are not doing that? Maybe that is part of the process, but even so, it takes them months to decorate and playtest a map to their internal standards.

But I think that Valve porting a map is a lot different than a user porting a map. I would believe that since the graphics and geometry of the new maps are different then on HL1 tech. I would imagine that they don't start with the old maps and edit the textures, they probably start from scratch in order to keep polygons down and to keep the unwanted garbage in the background. But hey, I've never made a map, so what do I know.Comment

peagle, i understand your comment. you know it's funny now that you mentioned it. the ones that valve clearly did bsp port don't look too good because they didn't spend ENOUGH time on them, while maps like italy look very good... sorta... and they spend a LOOOONG time on them. mapper's can't seem to find the happy medium
ok lemme revise my complaint. valve is just slow and they don't listen to the community.Comment

Funny thing is that all maps are BSPs, for HL1 and Source.
1. You can't just 'port the BSP'.
Another funny thing is that a conversion tool was announced to be released with the new hammer for the specific purpose of porting HL1 mods and maps to Source.Comment

lol hitman u do know who dave johnston is do you? i think he might know alot more about mapping with hl and hl2 than you do m8, stop moaning and winging, thinkin ur "The Daddy", when ur not.
you can too port the bsp. how do you think all of these hacked maps got made. how do you think they ported HL1 and DoD? They ported the bsp to the HL2 engine and then updated the graphics. der, kinda like what i was saying. the source maps are compelte remakes. if they'd port the bsp and use it as a starting place, they'd be more than 3/4 of the way done by now.Comment

ok, valve needs to listen (open a poll or something) and ask the PLAYERS what maps they want source'd (as in "whole new map" not a a crap lousy 1.6 map with little cans and barrels) . i'd chose assault, train and de_bridge. if they port bridge with the new cars on the source engine i'd play the map 24/7.Comment
