after about 8 hours of preloading, hl2 is now 100% done! that is at 1.5mb/s average. 8 fucking hours. well not 8 whole hours, 2:30 - 10:00 and it just finished. How the hell did hl2 end up this big?

Uh... it's a new game. With cube maps, lotsa high-res textures (with bump/normal mapping and specular/gloss mapping), LOTS of dialogue, great music, tons of game objects...

        Yeah, I think that's pretty self-explanatory.

multiple it though. so, in 7 and a half hours there is 450 minutes. in 450 minutes there is 27000 seconds. multiply 1.5 mb/s by 7 and a half hours. 1.5x27000=40500. 40500 is in megabytes, lets make that into gigs. 1024 megabytes equals a gig right? so 40500 devided by 1024= 39.55 gigs. 7 and a half hours at 1.5mb/s and it doesnt appear to be 39.55 gigs... maybe my math went wrong somewhere. =/

But if they are sending out the maps, doesn't that mean the maps are okay, meaning... Vivendi approved the RC?

And yes I know they can update them at anytime with steam...But that would mess up savegames most likely...so maybe this weekend?

Download speeds are measured in megaBITS, not bytes.

1.5mb/s means 1.5 mega BITS not bytes so divide that by 8

                      =4.94375 gb

                      sound better?

also remember when calculating with bits you don't use 1024, you can only use 1024 after converting bits to bytes (by dividing with 8)

8 bits to a byte. As Steam downloads all things in bits, and you are taking everything in bytes... Yeah.

Roughly 4.95GB assuming the rest of your math is correct, which I didn't bother to check.
