There were plently of UK servers, had a quick blast and played some Aztec, which was wonderful, except did immediatly highlight two things:
- No rain for spectators.
- You can see eveyone else's splashes, but not your own!
Very impressed with the first release, tho I was spoilt with the beta, I just know it is going to get better.
ps. it needs vote and votemap back in there :)Comment

Anyone know if there's some legal reason why they have to make it "no purchase necessary?" Maybe if they require a purchase, they have to follow another set of rules for the contest because of US law? I'm curious, because obviously if they were just doing that to be nice they would have publicized it, but, instead, they keep it quiet by only saying it in the fine print, as it were, of the contest rules.

Funny discovery... wonder if anyone else noticed this yet, and were just trying to keep it secret so no one else would find out and further lower the chances of winning? heh, not thousands upon thousands who don't even buy the game will be doing this. Personally, I wouldn't even want to go on that trip even if I won, doesn't seem worth my time, but I'm sure many people would, and will now sign up.Comment

yep, so when they get your 50$ it just cost them 1GB of upload. They sure are going to make a lot of profit with that compared to retail box. The purpose of steam was to deliver games at no cost at all, it's a shame that Valve can't have read they own contract and see that was not allowed.
Valve is not allowed to outbid the retail market by contract.
Those who buy it now have the sole consolation to think these extra profits help Valve team buy donuts and develop future products.
As for the "gold" trip-contest available even if you don't buy gold package ( http://steampowered.com/?area=HL2GOLD_contest )
that's probably due to legal reasons bound to the legal definition of a contest.
But don't get your hopes to high as the fine print states :Valve reserves the right to disqualify any winner, as determined by Valve in its sole discretion.
I wouldn't be surprised that they disqualify any winner who didn't bought gold package.
Can't have the office-map-moder spent his time moding Source:Chicken instead of moding even the smallest component of the motherboard in cs_office :
