If these are the errors people are seeing with steam, then it's not a problem with the steam client/system in any way. It's just the server dying under the load... this could have happened if it was just a web page to download from.

Of course you do, if you bought anything else from the US you would have to pay the exact same charges. That's not really surprising, it should have been expected...and is one of the main reasons why im going to get bronze or silver, no need to pay those extra fees when I don't have to :)
